Weekend Takeaway:

Some tournaments go exactly how you thought they would and some times your plan just doesn’t work out. One thing you have to hold on to is your confidence because that will always carry you through. My buddy asked me what I would have done different on Saturday knowing what we know now. I said nothing I would go run that same water with a frog and a senko again because that’s how confident I am with those lures.

Stay confident and keep your thumbs ripped!

Had a rough day today I had to grind all day to just get a limit. Ended up with like 70 inches and finish 16th of 24. I’ll always share the good and the bad though!

I locked a frog 🐸 in my hand for way too long today and missed a few blow ups this morning that cost me. I can’t help myself when I see huge mats to throw a frog all day long sometimes it pays off other times it doesn’t, but that’s the fun part about constantly trying to figure out these green fish!

Congrats @brianleppke for another epic win today!

Loved seeing everyone today out on the water as we wrapped up the @americanbasskayakseries regular season and now we just have the TOC in October!

As always keep your thumbs ripped! 👍

My happy place! Duck weed, no graphs and a frog rod!

Frog Fishing Tip: While fishing thick duck weed I’ve found it best to use a little bigger heavier frog and work it fast with occasional pauses. If you use to light of a frog and walk it slow on the thicker stuff it’s a little harder for them to find it.

Set up:
@phenixrods : Virtus Blue Diamond Frog Rod - VBD-C73HF
@fish_shimano_north_america : SLX 8:2:1
@fishpowerpro : 65lb braid

As always, keep your thumbs ripped! 👍

FFS RANT INCOMING:

Lately I’ve been running my @bonafidefish PWR129 with no graphs just power fishing shallow and following my instincts on the water.

There’s something really satisfying about putting together a pattern without staring at screen and shaking a bait in front of a dot on a screen……….

I’m not for FFS or against it anglers are going to fish how ever they want, but for me nothing compares to a frog blow up on the edge of a grass mat or feeling the fish smoke the chatterbait once you rip it free from the grass. Watching your line twitch when the fish eats your Senko on the fall. Seeing your line swim left or right after you just flipped your Texas rig or jig in the bush. Dragging a worm up hill on a main lake point and feeling the tick of a fish bite your drop shot.

Fishing to me is based on feeling the bite when you’re not expecting it. That one second when you realize your bit after grinding your pattern for hours on end. I’m not sure why I just went on that rant, but man has fishing changed a lot in the last 5 years. For me I’d rather enjoy the fishing styles I fell in love with than conform to this new era of watching a dot on a screen and shaking a bait in the fishes face.

I miss seeing the recaps of tournaments where guys break down their particular patterns and you could see the joy on their face after they figured out the perfect puzzle piece for the pattern of the day.

Now a days every recap is “I shook a minnow at a dot on my screen all day and got 5 fish to bite…..”

I’m constantly fighting this battle in my head do I need to conform to stay competitive or do I just roll with what makes fishing fun for me. It’s a battle, but I hope one day when my son gets on a bass boat of his own in the future he’ll still know how to throw a frog on a mat and rip a chatter bait out of the grass and fish “old school” 👍

As always, keep your thumbs ripped!

Flippin the @buckeyelures thump jig with a @yamamoto_fishing flappin hog got me a 7 pounder in practice at the Clear Lake event. That compact jig with bulky profile of the flappin hog makes for juicy looking meal for fish hugging tight to cover.

My go to rod for this set up is the new @phenixrods Virtus Blue Diamond flip/pitch rod. 💪

As always keep your thumbs ripped!
