Just checking in… it’s been a minute. Some of you know that over the past year I opened a food truck with a partner in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s been an incredible ride, but between that and everything else that comes with it, I’ve had very little time left for the hobby. Not that anyone has exactly been holding their breath, but I figured I’d check in for anyone who noticed I’d gone quiet. The shop isn’t gone — I’m just temporarily distracted by feeding people. I’ll be back to making knives very soon. In the meantime, here’s a tribute blade I made for a good friend and seriously talented maker, inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. The profile and grind draw heavily from turn-of-the-century Green River knives, specifically the old piece of blade gifted to the Kid by the cattle drovers shortly before he was conscripted by Captain White. Made from A2 tool steel, with the masterful Kydex work handled by @legiondefensesolutions Enjoy. by @bastienbladeandrig
Two more one offs that have been on the bench a while in Deville low layer Damascus. 0° double ground neckers in 5/32, 1084/15n20 with diamond knot lanyard. In the sheath these measure at 5”, outside without the lanyard 4.5” Sheaths are Kevlar lined aluminum wrapped in black vegtan leather and waxed cotton. Each comes with an adjustable technora necker rig. Each is razor sharp, sturdy as hell, minimal imprint. Unavailable by @bastienbladeandrig
“Kwaiken”… in the style of Phil Hartsfeild With its straight lines, 1/8” stock, American tanto profile, 0° chisel ground bevels, and in A2 tool steel… this 8” tribute to P.H. sports a 3.5” razor sharpened edge and is an absolute work horse… I’ve been carrying it for a week. It’s the very first item made from my new machine, and it’s ungodly sharp with the ability to perform heavy cutting as well as fine work where more finesse is needed. Handle construction is antiqued hunter orange deerskin lace tsuka over grey cotton cord, with a Menuki of hammered 1/4” copper wire running the length of the show side The sheath is kevlar lined aluminum Hartsfeild core, wrapped in epoxy soaked camo duck canvas, black cordage & lace, and solid brass rivets. The tether is made from 900 lb test abrasion/cut/fire resistant Kevlar, and runs 11.5” from the back of the sheath. This tool is a true EDC (I hate that term😂) and I believe can handle anything thrown at it without so much as a scratch to show for it. The leather handle has been left natural, treated with Atom wax (the cotton underneath is fully epoxied), and will weather and age beautifully with every year of use and carry time. Not Available 🤙🤙🤙 by @bastienbladeandrig
Spear-point utility This do it all EDC tool was made for a dear friend of mine who’s cosmetic preference has always been: “black with a little bit of black”, (It’s not available). A2 tool steel with a scandi style grind, epoxied cotton under-wrap, and waxed deertan leather tsuka handle. 7 3/4” OAL with a 4” handle. The DCC clipped Hartsfeild sheath is finished with crocodile skin, deertan lace, and blackened brass hardware. This gift marks the next stage of growth in my career as a maker, being the first piece finished of of my new-to-me, real boy now, 2x72 grinder. It’s my finest work to date in all aspects of, and still cannot begin to repay the the amount of assistance and inspiration I have received from the recipient over these last few years. Cheers my brother, while this is meant as a surprise, I’m confident you know who you are. I hope this will serve you faithfully for the remainder of your years. Our friendship will never be taken for granted and I look forward to many more years of correspondence and hopefully a few IRL meetups. I love you man, and thank you for everything. (NOT AVAILABLE) by @bastienbladeandrig
Ditch Head A last ditch thumb dagger style tool made from 1/8” 1084/15n20 steel from Bulldog Damascus. With a d/e business end of 2” and 3.25” OAL. The 0° chisel grind is very finely serrated by the feathered etch, and the blade is shaving sharp, it is very effective… It also sports a thumb index above the hand made“second-finger” bead mod of ironwood and copper, firmly secured by 2 knotted loops of cut-abrasion-fire resistant 900lb test Kevlar. Sheath is Kevlar lined aluminum core wrapped in denim, steel wire, kangaroo lace, and copper tubes. It is attached to a dedicated adjustable neck rig made from the same Kevlar cord. It’s not necessarily discreet worn outside the shirt, but barely imprints under a light Tee. No longer available by @bastienbladeandrig
I’d like to take a moment to highlight the artist that worked with me to create my logo and makers mark. @soshillustrations is supremely talented in not just his art, but in the subtle craft of personal branding. Despite the ultra thin feedback presented to him, he worked with me over a relatively short amount of time to develop these images, as if he reached into my brain and pulled them from my subconscious. He is prompt, professional, operates with a high level of communication, and at super reasonable cost. For any of my #scissorsisters, (my wife’s label for the community 😆) who may be looking to move on their design, or even a rebrand, I couldn’t recommend him more. I look forward to years of future collaboration, do yourself a favor and shoot him a DM. by @bastienbladeandrig
A small kwaiken finished last week: 1084, 0° chisel grind, 7 inch’s OAL, 3.5” blade. Jute tsuka for the handle and Kevlar lined aluminum wrapped in bamboo and para cord for the Hartsfeild sheath, with a bright orange micro cord to set off the Joker theme… NOT available. Thanks for looking! by @bastienbladeandrig
The world is a colder and darker place today, and will remain so until my wife and I pass on. He was and still is the absolute best of bois. For Becky and I, he was our heart, our best friend, our joy, our ultimate companion. Someone that knew how we felt instinctively, and could be counted on to actively come to our aid when times were hard. We will never truly get over this. For both myself and my wife, this is the first and closest we have ever felt the cold bite of death. He will be remembered so vividly, and we will share his story until we go. Goodbye Rufus, you are my heart and my love, and you absolutely saved our lives, the both of us. You are loved dearly until we are one once again. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💘💔❤️‍🩹 by @bastienbladeandrig
I won a raffle for a new product coming out from @shadetreecc and these pics and vid look great… but they don’t do this stuff any justice. Taken in the sun they sparkle with a manly glam deep into the layers… pictured is a new model that I made for my grandpa, who would give me a @caseknivesusa pocket blade every time I would visit for as long as I remember. Very cool to be able to gift him one of my own. by @bastienbladeandrig
