It is officially Week of WBEC (WOW)!! Today, I joined @wbecnydmv for a meet and greet in the city. It was great meeting the WBEC team in-person and getting to know everyone better! The meet and greet was in a perfect cooking location at the @weareluminary, and I was able to find a spot to work on a proposal that was due today!! 😅😅

WOW celebrations continue all week long, including tomorrow with FREE networking from 10-12 at the Q House in New Haven! Registration not required. See you there!!

NO MATTER HOW BLEAK THINGS ARE, THERE IS ALWAYS BEAUTY TO BE FOUND.

This rose bush in my back yard is ALWAYS the first and last to flower among the greenery in my back yard. She heralds "Spring is here!!" and then "Winter is here!!" with her large pink blooms, always in pairs.

I always wonder at her resiliency, standing firm after 23 years, a citadel that there is always a bit of beauty to be found in every thing.

As my yard goes to sleep for the winter, my heart is full seeing her bright blooms.

My island home Dominica celebrated 46 years of independence from the United Kingdom this past November 3rd. Growing up for my Aunt Adele and my Mom, this was their most favorite time of the year...the food, the culture but more importantly the coming together of a nation.

These past 17 years celebrating our independence hasn't meant much to me with my mom passing on the Nov 3, 2007, even with going to celebration events annually with my Aunt Florence. Like previous years, this year I joined her at the Dominica American Relief & Development Association celebration luncheon event.

For the first time Kizy Smith joined us. While discussing what to wear, I joked, we should see if Aunty Adele's wob dwiyet would fit her. The moment she put it on, we were both filled with an overwhelming feeling of love, appreciation and coming full circle in the presence of my mom and aunt.

Kizy never got to meet her Aunt, she passed when I was 11, but passing down this precious heirloom to her made her feel so close to an aunt that I have spoken so much about.

Like my mom, my aunt was and is LOVED by all. They both shared their talents, time and hearts wholly with everyone they came into contact with. It is a great legacy to carry and I am blessed my daughter shares that legacy with me.
