MY ALBUM IS OUT TODAY AHHHHHH so much to say. “I Don’t Do Humidity” was born out of a very painful part of my life. while i don’t know if that wound will ever close up, i am thankful to have the opportunity to make art out of it.

the for 1 million on The Silence 🤍 feels full circle,
the song is about anxiety/loneliness and panic attacks i was plagued with years ago. im conquering these things in a second wave. wondering if the timing matters, if it’s a message i’m supposed to hear again.
thanks for all the wonderful stories y’all have told me about how you’ve connected with this song on your own journey. they make my heart melt. maybe a message for us all in our own ways

heres a dump of old Last Looks studio sessions prob around 2018. The Silence was prob the second one i recorded with damon. the first being Tarot Cards. Heres a small tambo we used on Curbside.

i’d book 2 studio days with damon a month. a weekend to knock out adding real percussion and drums to my demos, retrack vox with better mics, add synth parts etc. my demos just had guitar, bass, fake drums and my vox on an AT2020. lots of room to grow, but the song structure was complete.

Most of the guitar on Last Looks album was a les paul. (shh 🤫). it had mixed and matched heavy flats, hadn’t changed them in 10 years. still haven’t. i mean… they’re flats? but sometimes i’d pull out a strat. i play this one live. it only appears a couple times on the actual Last Looks record. It’s the main rhythm guitar in The Silence. (not the arpegio one that starts the song or the solo, that’s the les paul). the second time it appears is on curbside. I keep all my guitars in Eb standard because i heard Beach House does the same thing. That’s the only reason why 🤷‍♀️ But the 12th fret harmonics in the guitar solo of The Silence can only really be hit if you’re tuned down like this. Unless you can pinch. Which feels like manspreading.

As im looking at this photo, i have no idea what i was looking at on my phone here. I usually look at lyrics from my notes app. Maybe that’s what instagram looked like back in the day? We would triple track every vocal on the Last Looks album. Process it with lots of verb and a little chorus.

i didnt spend a lot of time in the vocal booth back then. now days we labor over the performance, and the parts are admittedly way more challenging as i’ve grown accustomed to my own voice and am pushing myself. b by @bathealone
