Wandering around Chinatown in SF on a beautiful day. Finally! My long search is over. A killer bowl of Dan Dan. From Portland to Singapore to Japan I searched. Well, that was completely unhinged... power outages, a heatwave, a brand-new untested tiny kitchen, smashing my head every trip to the basement to get to the walk-in, missing provisions, no can opener, limited utensils, no AC — did I mention the heatwave? Still, very satisfied with the plates we put out. Sadly, no time to take photos, so I gathered a few from guests. Big thank you to my friend Itze for helping all week — she made over 100 blue corn tostadas. Gold star award goes to her. All pretty par for the course with a brand-new hotel and restaurant on opening night. Thanks to David and Alma for having us. In no time at all, Le Beaurepaire will have all the kinks worked out and be a beacon of hospitality in the République. So happy to have had such a full house. So happy my daughters were there. I wish I could've chatted with everyone. The shift drink was watching France win their World Cup match on the big screen in the restaurant. Can't wait to bring Bat Luck back to Paris!!! Throwback to the pop up I did a couple years ago in Tokyo with my buddy Blunt. I made my mother’s biscuits and gravy in a small gyoza shop along with Blunt’s jambalaya.
