Had the chance to catch up with a few of them working A Shift today and present them with their 20-year pins. Great seeing FT Denise Boggs, FF Kyle Clagg, FF Charlie Sins, and Lt. Cody Wargo.

Congratulations to the entire class on two decades of service, dedication, and brotherhood. taken in Langley Park, Maryland by @battalion17

Busy day on A Shift with 500+ calls across the County.

Battalion 6 crews put in some quality drill time, while crews in Brandywine handled an outside-in fire with solid communication, disciplined tactics, and great coordination throughout the incident.

A lot of work put in across the shift today, and we finished it off the right way; with some birthday cake.

Proud of the work by everyone. Strong work all around. by @battalion17

Today, Truck 829 had the privilege of representing the department at the funeral services for Retired Major Joe Caldwell.

It was one of those moments that reminds you of the generations of service that have built this department. Standing together were men whose names have built PGFD history, alongside the next generation proudly carrying that legacy forward.

Representing today were:
• Ret. Sgt. Jerry Wargo
• Lt. Cody Wargo
• Ret. FF Steve “ShockaMan” Garrett
• FF LaValle Hodges (grandson of FF Garrett)
• Ret. Lt. Frank “Smilie” Ditmars
• FF Charles Ditmars (grandson of Frank Ditmars)
• FF Josh Buckler (son of Ret. Lt. Pat Buckler)

Among legends. Honored to stand beside those who helped shape this department and to see their legacy continue through the generations that followed. by @battalion17

After 9 years as Battalion Chief 5, it’s time to turn the page.

To the entire 5th Battalion B Shift, especially Company 32, thank you for taking me in as one of your own and for always making us look good. Serving alongside you has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.

Over the years, we’ve grown together. We’ve watched our families grow, celebrated promotions, welcomed new members, laughed through countless good times, and stood shoulder to shoulder through some incredibly difficult ones. No matter what came our way, we always had each other’s backs.

People often ask what makes a great shift. It isn’t the calls or the stations; it’s the people. Without question, B Shift is filled with some of the finest firefighters, officers, and leaders this department has to offer. You made my job easier than you probably ever realized, but more importantly, you made coming to work something I genuinely looked forward to.

While I’m not going far, it won’t be the same. The friendships, memories, and pride we’ve built together will stay with me forever. I’ll always be grateful for the trust you placed in me and proud to have served as your Battalion Chief.

Thank you for nine unforgettable years. It has truly been an honor to serve alongside each and every one of you.

See you on the fireground. taken in Oxon Hill, Maryland by @battalion17

Our 12U season officially came to an end this past weekend with a loss in the championship game of the Youth World Series in Fruitland, Maryland, to a very good team from Long Island. We finished the season 19-12, but the record only tells a small part of the story.

From the cold nights of winter workouts back in January to the final out this weekend, it all went by in the blink of an eye.

What I’m most proud of isn’t the wins or the trophies, it’s the growth. These boys became better baseball players, but more importantly, they’ve grown into better teammates, better competitors, and young men who know how to handle both success and adversity. Watching them mature over the past couple of years has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had as a coach.

To our parents, thank you for trusting us with your boys, for the countless miles traveled, weekends spent at the fields, and for supporting this team every step of the way.

To our coaching staff, Mike and Chad, thank you for the countless hours, your commitment, and for always putting the boys first. I couldn’t ask for better people to coach alongside.

And to our players….thank you for the memories. Keep working, keep competing, and keep being great teammates. Baseball has a funny way of ending seasons before you’re ready, but the lessons, friendships, and memories from this one will last a lifetime.

Proud to be your coach. Go Cutters! by @battalion17
