#TheFirstBite / #PehlaNiwala comes home! Very excited for our national premiere today at the @nfaiofficial in Law College Road in Poona as part of the @mumbafilmfestival.

Law college road is where the seeds of my filmmaking journey was planted. It is on these roads that I dreamt of becoming a filmmaker, while crossing the FTII and NFDC buildings on my way to law school. And I’m so happy to return to the same familiar lanes with my film.

If you’re in Poona, I’d love to have you at the screening. DM for passes. :))

Venue : Theatre 2 , NFAI.
Date : 7th October, 2026
Time : 5.30 P.M.

Some books travel. Literally.

This one travelled all the way to Annecy, where it found Monalisa Mukherji through the kindness of our dear friends, Helene Kessous and Némésis Srour.

The book is titled Satyajit Ray – Ce que j'ai toujours su, c'est dessiner ("Satyajit Ray: What I've Always Known How To Do Is Draw"). It is the result of a truly herculean labour of love by two remarkable women, Amandine D'Azevedo and Eva Markovits. Nearly 900 pages - 894, to be precise - filled with affection, admiration and an enduring love for the cinema and artistry of Satyajit Ray. Our shared love...

To discover, on page 865, my own small anecdotal tribute to Mahanagar (The Big City/La Grande Ville) - a film I have always considered to be Ray's greatest - is both humbling and deeply moving.

It is an honour beyond words to have been included in what feels like a once-in-a-lifetime publication, alongside filmmakers, writers and thinkers I have admired for years: Charles Tesson, Sally Potter, Amit Dutta, Mira Nair, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Anup Singh, Santosh Sivan, Jean-Paul Fargier, Pushpendra Singh, Deepa Mehta, Alain Gomis, and so many others.

My heartfelt thanks to Amandine and Eva for creating something so extraordinary, and for allowing me to be a small part of this beautiful tribute to Satyajit Ray. This is a book to cherish.

Yes... the book is entirely in French!

Time to fix that.

Proud to announce First Ray Films' first foray into animation as we come aboard #Error404 alongside the incredible teams at Little Lamb Films. Here's to planting stories... and trees.
