Oh… so you want to watch the Friendship Documentary? 👇👇👇👇👇

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This documentary is dedicated to friendship.

For 7 days, 5 childhood friends put aside study, work and other commitments to spent time together. Looking back, this is the first time since high-school we have been fortunate enough to spend this much continuous time together. It’s amazing how just 7 days can have such a impact on your life. The people we met, the memories we shared, and adventures we experienced in this 1 week, will stick with us for life.

Before this trip, we all knew there was a chance it could be the last adventure we take together like this. Not because we wanted it to be, but because life keeps moving. We graduate, start careers, move cities, chase opportunities, and slowly take on more responsibility.

When you’re young, it feels like you’ll always have time. Another coffee date, another trip, another weekend with the boys. But one day you realise these moments aren’t guaranteed.

That’s what this film is really about. Not the places we visited or the things we did, but the people we shared them with. If there’s one thing we hope you take away from this, it’s to stop waiting for the perfect time. Book the trip. Send the message. Tell your mates what they mean to you...
Because one day, you’ll look back and realise these weren’t just random weekends or holidays. They were the days that shaped your life.

We’re only getting older.

The ARRI Alexa Mini LF is easily one of the best aerial cinema cameras I’ve ever used, especially when paired with a $20 3.5-channel RC helicopter from Walmart. Shooting in LogC3 Wide Gamut gives me incredible dynamic range, beautiful highlight roll-off and insane flexibility in post.

My biggest complaint is flight performance. The helicopter battery only lasts a few minutes, and the ARRI tends to move around quite a bit in the wind. Not ideal when you’re trying to capture smooth cinematic tracking shots.

Durability is another concern. The helicopter cost me $20 from Walmart, so I’d genuinely hate to have to replace it if I ever crashed. The ARRI should be fine though.

Incredible image quality. Slightly underpowered aircraft. 8/10. #cinematic #arrialexa #colorgrade #filmlook #helicopter by @baxter.beams

The Wii Sensor Bar is definitely one of the more challenging cameras I’ve shot with, mainly because Nintendo forgot to actually put a camera in it. Makes capturing footage a little tricky.

It’s incredibly light and thin too, which sounds great for travel until you try setting it up outside and the slightest breeze completely ruins your shot.

My biggest concern is the blue tack holding it to my TV at home is starting to wear out, so I’ll definitely need to reapply that before the next trip. #cinematic #colorgrading #wii #cinemacamera #colorgrade by @baxter.beams

The aftermarket 2004 Toyota Camry reverse camera is actually a pretty underrated cinema setup. I’ve never really heard much about Camry Park Log-2 but the more I graded, the more I appreciated its dynamic range.

Image quality is solid, but unfortunately I still haven’t figured out how to remove the parking guide lines in post.

My biggest complaint is portability. Taking the entire Camry rear bumper as carry-on was super awkward, and trying to rig it up in a tiny spot on the plane made filming ridiculously bulky.

Cool camera, questionable form factor. 6.5/10 #cinematic #colorgrading #toyotacamry #reversecamera #filmlook by @baxter.beams

The Nintendo DSi might genuinely be one of the most overlooked cinema cameras ever made. DSi-Cine EI delivers ridiculous dynamic range, beautiful highlight roll-off and, thanks to the dual-screen setup, you get real-time playback on your SECOND monitor. Take notes ARRI.

My only complaint is rigging. After extensive testing, I’ve found the best tripod for the DSi is actually a flat bookshelf. So instead of carrying a tripod, I now try to carry around a table or find a conveniently placed surface for steady shots.

Cinema camera. Games console. Folding monitor. 8/10. #cinematic #colorgrading #nintendods #cinematiccamera #filmlook by @baxter.beams

For its age, the Xbox 360 Kinect is genuinely one of the best motion sensors and cinematic cameras I’ve ever used. Kinect-RAW was an absolute blessing for both gamers and filmmakers. Some cinema cameras come with one sensor… this bad boy came with three.

The downside is that it’s a wired setup, and its awkward shape makes traveling quite annoying. Not to mention, it’s a bit of a hassle to set up and carry around. Overall 7/10 #cinematic #colorgrading #xboxkinect #bestcamera #filmlook by @baxter.beams

Genuinely shocked by the jump from Ring Gen 2 to Gen 3. The introduction of Ring-Log2 gives way more color depth crispy highlight roll-off and amazing dynamic range. Basically cinema-grade now. Thank you Ring, this is what we’ve all been waiting for 🙏 #cinematic #colorgrading #ringdoorbell #filmlook #colorgrade by @baxter.beams

Wow. What a week.

The night before this adventure, the boys and I decided to film a long-form video to capture the memories. Little did we know how much of an impact this film would have on people around the world.

The goal was never to go viral, get millions of views, or become travel influencers. We simply wanted to show that anyone can create memories which last a lifetime by documenting adventures with any level of equipment.

Going into this trip, we knew it could be one of the last boys’ trips when we’re all together. We’re at that age where life starts to get a little more serious, and opportunities like this become rarer.

So to see this series reach over 1 million views across all platforms in its first week has been incredible.

Whether you found us through an Instagram Reel or watched the full film o YouTube, thank you. Every view, follow, comment, and message means the world.

This is only the beginning…….😉 #travel #roadtrip #boystrip #memories #cinema taken in South Island, New Zealand by @baxter.beams

Gotta risk it for the best shots!!! These are a few of the close calls we had when filming The Friendship Documentary on the DJI Avata 2.

I bought this drone a few months prior to the trip, this road trip was kinda the first time I gotta really put it to the test, I can definitely say it’s a durable drone 😆
