I’ve never shared this story on Instagram before. The entry exam to law school is a two day test called the LSAT. The morning I was set to take the LSAT, I was internally freaking out and conflicted. I was unsure if I was making the right choice by leaving behind modeling and New York (which I was having some success with) in order to do law school. An hour before the exam, I heard some noise outside my house. When I went outside there were hundreds of birds circling above my home. Hundreds. Then I saw something white. I grabbed some binoculars and realized that white thing was a Bald Eagle (as seen in slides 4-7). I immediately started crying because I instinctively knew the Eagle was a message from my Potawatomi ancestors. Eagles are sacred to us and my tribe actually has an eagle aviary so it very well might have been an eagle that was raised by my tribe. I knew by seeing the Bald Eagle that my ancestors were telling me law school was the right path and that they are watching and protecting me. I also felt an overwhelming sense of sureness that part of my path in law school is to practice Indian Law. I went back in the house to take the exam and the entire time I knew there was a Bald Eagle flying above my house and it brought me so much peace. Day 2 of the exam, there were less birds, but the Bald Eagle was still flying above my home. On the third day, it was gone and I haven’t seen it since.
The Eagle was only above my home on those two days of the LSAT.
When I was recently given my Potawatomi name, “Ge-Gay Ne-bo-kwa” (stands for her people) my elders they told me that I am connected to the Eagle spirit. I think that’s true. I think of that Eagle circling above my home often. It reminds me of my purpose in law school and my belonging on this path. Being Editor-in-Chief of American Indian Law Review is part of that path. It’s important to me to protect and grow this journal. Recently, I was able to propose and pass (with the help of my amazing editorial board) a Constitutional amendment to require everyone on AILR to take Federal Indian Law. I feel very proud knowing that part of my legacy is creating more attorneys that have taken Federal Indian Law! by @bayleebardot

BEST BRIEF / WRITTEN ADVOCATES🥇(Which will be published), I was the 3RD BEST ORAL ADVOCATE (out of 132 people)🥉, and as a team, Madison and I were the 3RD OVERALL BEST ADVOCATES🥉(out of 66 teams)- the most to ever compete at the National Native American Law Student Association (“NALSA”) Moot Court Competition! Oh and we had the most awards of any team and were first seed in the sweet 16 (but made it to the final 4).💅🏼 Hire me as an Appellate Attorney!! Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business. Summa Cum Laude (highest honors) and Delta Mu Delta honor society member because I’m in the top 10% of my class.
