As Missions Week wraps up here at Baylor, we are spotlighting Engineers with a Mission! Earlier this summer, Drs. Min Pack and Doug Smith led a team of 10 students from Engineers with a Mission back to Kenya and Naomi’s Village, alongside a team of Baylor nursing students. Teams worked on three different projects: improving water quality through custom bio-sand filters, a new stove design focused on reducing smoke inhalation, and a fetal heart monitor for local nurses.

Missions Week provides Baylor students with a vast understanding of the various forms that ministry can take. Theron Humphries, a Junior Electrical and Computer Engineering major who participated in the trip this past May, shared about his experience. “Heading into my time at Naomi’s Village, I worried it might be difficult to form genuine bonds because we came from completely different sides of the world. Yet my biggest takeaway ended up being the depth of the relationships built during my time there. It was an incredible joy to share God’s love with the children, watching their faces light up as they sang along during worship and connecting deeply during devotionals. Alongside those moments, getting to work hand in hand with the local social workers was just as impactful. Guided by God’s love and a shared heart for serving others, we stepped into community outreach projects together, proving how people who start as complete strangers can unite for a meaningful purpose. In the end, this experience showed me that across any cultural or geographic divide, God’s love will always find a way to bring people together.” by @baylor_ecs

Big things are happening at Baylor, and we are thankful to be a part of the mission here in ECS!

U.S. News & World Report has recognized Baylor among the nation’s Top 10 for Learning Communities (#3) and First-Year Experiences (#9), with additional recognition for Undergraduate Teaching (#25) and Undergraduate Research & Creative Projects (#36).

For Baylor Engineering & Computer Science, that means students don’t just learn about what’s next — they are integral in creating it.

Thanks, Dr. Spence!

Going to Common Grounds for a week and learning the Thermodynamics of making coffee are the same thing, right?

We actually asked Dr. Spence if she would allow us to miss a week of class for a once in a lifetime opportunity to tour the world and learn about the history of coffee! by @baylor_ecs
