In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Baylor Law welcomed U.S. Magistrate Judges Laura Enriquez (JD ’96) and Ignacio Torteya III (BA ’92, JD ’95), along with McAllen Municipal Judge Lauren Sepulveda (JD ’11), for a Professional Development Program on representation, access to justice, and service. From opening statements to closing arguments, Baylor Law School students put their advocacy skills to work during the 27th Criminal Law Boot Camp.

Led by Adjunct Professor Richard Alpert, students tackled realistic trial exercises with guidance from experienced prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges.

From the soccer field to the stage to Baylor Law School, 2L Sami Brown's path to law school has been anything but predictable. A Waco native, Sami played collegiate soccer in Texas and Michigan, earned an accounting degree and a master's in business, and has continued pursuing her passion as a singer-songwriter along the way. Law school brought her back home to Waco.

On the newest episode of Counseller's Corner, Sami joins Dean Jeremy Counseller to talk about the unexpected turns that shaped her path, finding community at Baylor Law School, and learning that law school doesn't mean giving up the things you love. They also talk music, including Sami's album Seeker and a very serious ranking of five classic songs.

Baylor Law School students (L-R) Kenadie Wilde, Tesia Crosby, and Alecia Johnson recently competed in the Best in Texas Voir Dire Competition, hosted by TEX-ABOTA. For Wilde, the experience reinforced the value of competitions in preparing students for the practice of law.
“This competition showed us how important it is to understand and articulate the values we want our jurors to have when hearing our case,” Wilde said. “I feel prepared to jump into practice and pick a jury, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to compete on this team.”
