It’s my Egyptian Princess-Monkey BeeBee McGee’s Birthday today. From our beach house on the Atlantic, flat in the Mountains of Telluride, the country cabin in Meeker, all the way to our little place here in the city, you are the reason any place is called home to me. You’re my baby, and forever my baby you’ll be.
You know what they say, you don’t rescue the dog, the dog rescues you.
Happy Birthday, baby girl. Mommy loves you more than anything, and I hope you feel celebrated every single day.

New School Year photos are a well known tradition and intimate opportunity for moms and dads, (family in general,) to capture the progression of their children’s growth throughout the years..
.
Whilst I am all damp eyed and emotional (like that ever stops,) I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Lauren and Joe for allowing me to be the obnoxious non-blood related Aunt who tags along, snaps photos, and is obnoxiously present when it might not be the “social norm.”
.
It is SO rare to find best friends (who are actually married to one another,) and whom you can count on for anything and everything.. But, It is even more rare to have those same best friends include you in daily life like you are part of the family.
.
Thank you, Lauren and Joe, for letting me tag along to the 1st and 2nd day of school for these two crazy goobers this morning.
.
As one of the only gals in our group who doesn’t have her own, I think sometimes people forget that we/I as a non-child bearing woman, still ache for these experiences, I excitedly want to show up, and I want to be on the sideline to watch my best friends babies grow up.
.
Being a part of Trip and Rosemary’s life (and obviously yours,) has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
Thank you for letting me be present for so many of the monumental life stepping stones for both them, and you two.
.
Thank you @eorthwein and @meghanphelps_ for not kicking me out of the aunt circle. 🙃even though I don’t belong!

Thank you to both the Orthwein’s and Phelps for embracing me (for some reason beyond my understanding,) and for being my lifelong friends turned family.

Hi friends 👩🏼‍🍳!

I recently inquired in my local GroupMe chat if people would be interested in my services if I got back into doing private chef/prepared meals/etc., work.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, (yay,) but for my own convincing, I still feel as though I would like to have additional feedback before committing to diving back into it.
SO,
In regards to prepared meals:

I would drop a menu once a week via Facebook, Instagram, and GroupMe, those who would like to order would pay via Venmo at that time. I would offer scheduled pick up times at my home twice a week, with those times being thoughtful and convenient for family’s with kids in school, working parents, etc.
If you would want/need delivery, I can totally do that with an additional (small) fee. Ya’ll know gas is crazy- even with my Subaru.
.
Private chef services:

This could be a one time special event/party/holiday family meal, etc., pricing would be situational- and mostly dependent upon the complexity, time allocation, and if any additional staffing is required for me to hire out, (i.e.-bartenders, someone to help clean, someone to pass around apps, etc.)
.
Anywho,
What’re your thoughts? Should I jump back into the kitchen? Into YOUR kitchen? Or is the market oversaturated? Your girl has been outta the game for quite a few years.. but my apron is calling my name.

My Favorite Forever Foodie Date, Loretta, and I, wined, dined, and probably committed a crime at the 405 vs. 918 Culinary Battle last night.
.
It is always an honor, (and a heck of a good time,) laughing until my cheeks hurt with this legendary lady, but it was also an absolute honor to break bread with an entire establishment full of Oklahoma’s Food & Beverage - Hospitality powerhouses.
An honor, and an experience, that wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for Greg Horton, Eric Smith, and all of the unbelievably talented chefs and supporters.
*Shoutout to Bryant Gallegos for making all of us proud, and for the VERY well deserved win!*

An enormous thank you to Greg for including me in an evening that brought me back to my roots, an industry that raised me and shaped me into the woman I am now.
.
Speaking of my past life, Chef Mark Vannasdall, one of my very first bosses/mentors, endured a bear hug from me, but then proceeded to blow my mind and shock what very few brain cells I have left by turning to our group, and shares his recollection of the first day he met me. 😂
Apparently I was even more bold and bonkers back then than I am now. Bless my heart.
Mark, 15 years later, I guess I can, and probably should, officially apologize for any and all of the headaches I might’ve caused you in the kitchen. You deserve a trophy, but.. I’m sure you have one or two already. Thank you for challenging me, teaching me, and preparing me for what evolved into what I am proud to say was a beautiful and successful career.
Man, I miss the kitchen.

What a night. What a treat. What a gift it is to have so many memories, so many wonderful people, and so much to be thankful for.

While much of Oklahoma was focused on Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, a few hundred Oklahomans gathered next door for a different purpose.

The 47th Annual @tasteofokc raised roughly a quarter of a million dollars for @bbbsokokc . With approximately $2,500 supporting the creation and maintenance of a mentoring match, the impact of the evening will extend far beyond a single night of food and celebration.

It was a privilege to witness the event unfold. Chefs, restaurateurs, volunteers, sponsors and donors came together not for recognition, but for a cause larger than themselves. Among the many auction offerings were extraordinary dining experiences from Chef Kelly Whitaker of @idest_hq and nonesuch, original works from @dgsmalling , a Oklahoma City Thunder package, and countless other contributions that reflected the generosity in the room.

The moment that defined the evening came from Executive Chair @food_and_fatherhood .

Often, speeches are remembered for their rhetoric, polished delivery or memorable turns of phrase. Mr. Ott’s remarks stood out for a different reason: sincerity. His message was simple. Be kind.

Looking around the room, it was difficult not to see that message reflected in the event itself. Hundreds of individuals had chosen to spend their evening supporting children they may never meet. Together, they raised resources, created opportunities and invested in a better future for Oklahoma’s next generation.

A special thank you to @baymac09 and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma team, as well as Sarah and Anthony Taylor for their support as Executive Chef Sponsors. It was an honor to be present for an evening dedicated to changing the lives of Oklahoma’s children.

The McMahan family is SO excited and grateful for the newest Westminster Place Park Addition!
.
You can tell how happy Grandmama Susie and Margot Monkey are with these giant smiles Plastered on their Gorgeous Faces.
.
My mom and my niece.. ya’ll.. I’m going to tell you one thing. I wept looking at these photos.. we had the most absurd dinner at my home (stones throw away from the park.) My smoke alarm went off, my backyard was a little too muddy and wet for Margot, I didn’t have a toddler seat for dinner, Evie was so damn determined to bark until she understood what was going on.
.
But, lord have mercy, look how stunning my mama looks with her grandbaby. The joy. The PURE joy and fulfillment you can see on my mama’s face. It brings me to tears.
.
Let us ALL acknowledge the gift it is to have those we love near to us… let us ALL do our best to slow down, and have the gift of slowing down, (and to understand how much of a privilege it is to be able to slow down.)
.
THIS. This is what matters in our time here on earth.
These evenings.
These windswept, silly, what seem to be brief- moments.. the funny, galloping and trotted along snippets of time that a toddler sprints down the street, pretending to be a pony.. their small hand holding yours.
But why is it so sweaty and stinky? 😂
Who cares… also, I don’t want to think about it…
.
Baby, last but not least, let us ALL grasp just how precious all of these short and quick moments are, the seconds, the giggles, the new words, the child like recognition of something new, and the giant smiles that come from innocence.
Let us ALL be grateful for the beauty of seeing and experiencing Life for the first time.

Honored to stand alongside my colleagues and represent Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma at our State Capitol.. Our organization, alongside many others, came together to advocate, and engage with our state legislators specifically in regards to the needs of Oklahoma Children with Incarcerated Parents. Our mentorship program is statistically proven to improve the outcome and trajectory of the lives of these children, and every single one of them deserves the stability, the love, the care, and the helping hand.
