TWINKS IN CARACAS: AN OIL FANTASIA

My new solo show, combining documentary theater and drag performance! It’s based on interviews I conducted with Venezuelan immigrants about their dream experiences.

TICKETS HERE: https://tinyurl.com/2ke62wkv

Nitery Theater @niterytheatre (Stanford University): April 30th - May 2nd: 8pm | Matinee on May 2nd: 2pm
Et Al Gallery (2831a Mission St, San Francisco): Friday May 8th: 6:00 pm

Synopsis:
Antonio, a Venezuelan drag queen, starts having mysterious dreams right after meeting his new love: a magnetic twink hiding a dark truth.
The dreams feel like other people’s dreams and, more exactly, like the dreams of other Venezuelan immigrants. As these visions make Antonio grapple with his own painful memories about Venezuela, he is also pushed to confront the twink’s past.
“Twinks in Caracas: An Oil Fantasia” is a multimedia production merging documentary theater, film, and drag performance to explore Venezuela’s collective unconscious and the experience of Venezuelan immigrants.

PROPORTIONALITY is a climate theater show set in the perhaps-not-so-distant future where a geoengineering company, funded by the fossil fuel industry, has built luxurious residences for the ultra-rich (and top-level workers at the company) to live shielded from extreme temperatures. After a party, two employees face the utmost disruption as they seek intimacy: an activist has hacked into the building’s temperature control system, trapping them inside as heat levels rise. Over the course of a spiraling night, the two men are forced to confront not only the activist’s demands, but their complicity in the system—and each other’s moral limits.

*Content warning: this show includes depictions of gun violence, kidnapping/abduction, and misogyny. It also features strobe lighting and other rapid light effects, which may pose a risk to individuals with photosensitive epilepsy or other light sensitivities. taken in Nitery Experimental Theater - NExT by @baymoves

Beatriz, my mom, would’ve celebrated her birthday on May 8th. Although it’s no longer possible for me to dance with her, I dance for her, to her, and from her. She was the person who has supported me the most and I know she would be proud to see how everyday, little by little, I look more like what I have dreamt of myself, as La Agrado from “All about my mother” would say.

I dedicate these explorations and rehearsals to my mother (check out the reel).

[A beautiful coincidence made it the case that after my rehearsal and in the same room, the West-African dance company Diamano Coura @diamanocoura offered a wonderful workshop. Drums (or “tambores,” in Spanish) were one of my mom’s favorite musical and dance forms.] taken in Stanford, California by @baymoves

“Gay Gorilla,” my first choreography, performed last night at the Young Choreographers Festival.
The music is “Gay Guerrilla” by Julius Eastman, a Black and gay composer whose groundbreaking work was long forgotten. I decided to choreograph this piece after the stunning rendition by @wildup at Bing Concert Hall earlier this year.
Special thanks to my amazing pianist and flatmate, Terry Feng @fenglyfe who introduced me to Eastman’s work in the first place.
And thanks for the support ❤️ @fireclaywater @lisibusi @danfriedman4 @victoria.michaels @stanfordtaps #stanfordarts #stanforddance taken in Stanford, California by @baymoves
