I’m officially a published author. I was ask to write an article in the #AAPC monthly reader which is for #medicalcoders and medical field. A world wide magazine. Habits built over eighteen years don’t disappear overnight.
Mohawk wasn’t just my dog—he was my little companion, my travel buddy, and part of nearly everything I did.
In his older years, cooking became our time. Every afternoon, about an hour before my workday ended, I’d hear his little click-clack as he came to wait for the computer to shut down, Spotify to turn up, and dinner to begin. He was my official taste tester. Every ingredient needed a sniff, and if I forgot, I’d get a little kiss on my leg or a gentle paw tap. If he approved, I’d hear his famous little “ah chewy.” 😂
He had the biggest personality in the tiniest body. He loved hiking, road trips, grocery runs, taco nights, steak dinners, and simply being wherever I was. Around Redmond, so many people knew him as the little dog riding around on a lady’s arm. It makes me smile through the tears knowing he brought joy to so many.
Canine dementia isn’t talked about enough. His body was still healthy, but his mind was slowly slipping away. Nights became confusing and frightening for him. The moments where he was truly himself became fewer and fewer. Loving him meant making the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make.
Today, I don’t want to remember the dementia. I want to remember the fearless little hiker, the road-trip partner, the food critic, the taco-night supervisor, and the tiny dog who left footprints on so many hearts.
In my heart, I see him running to Grandma, chasing Boss, meeting Cooler at Grandpa’s feet, and Miss Jones wagging her tail nearby.
Rest easy, my little man. ❤️
Thank you for every adventure, every laugh, every paw tap, every taste test, and every day you chose me. I’ll love you for the rest of my life.

Lilman is having a bad dementia day. Poor guy. He wouldn’t respond to “wanna go for a walk” or “lay outside” but he saw me move my car keys and perked up so we went for a Sunday drive to #smithrock he got some lovings on the Rim trail while we ate our huckleberry icecream and people watched.
