My Life In Motion 📽 - Season 2 Episode 12 @bb_elora

Barbara Elora Botchway is a Ghanaian social impact advocate and digital creator, and the founder of El-Laurel Foundation and Xplo Africa. Her work focuses on empowering young people, advancing education and gender equality, while creating platforms that showcase the beauty, culture, and stories of Africa.

What began as a desire to serve children grew into El-Laurel Foundation, a community that started with a few friends and a simple decision to help. Years later, an encounter with people from different parts of the world made her question how Africa was being seen and who gets to tell its story. That question eventually became Xplo Africa, a platform dedicated to sharing a more authentic picture of the continent.

She is a shining light in this generation, “Years Of The African Youth,” and her journey shows what can happen when you are willing to start before you have everything figured out. From serving children to creating new ways of telling African stories, Barbara has continued to choose action over waiting for the perfect conditions. Her journey rings true to the YOTAY motto: My Heroes Look Like Me.

Swipe through to learn more about what got her started along this journey and the major lesson she hopes to share with others who wish to learn from her life and work.

YOTAY... Years Of The African Youth. #ElLaurelFoundation #XploAfrica #YotayWorld by @bb_elora

As a young woman on a mission to explore Africa and make an impact, one of my biggest dreams is to visit every African country not just to experience its beauty, but to leave a positive impact wherever I go.

This December, El-Laurel Foundation, in collaboration with the XploAfrica team, will be doing something special.

We’re looking for an orphanage or children’s home in an underserved community that we can visit and support this Christmas.

If you know of one, please drop the name and location in the comments or send me a DM. ❤️

Who knows? Your recommendation could be the community we visit this Christmas. by @bb_elora

Growing up, I never agreed with the saying, “Life begins at 40.”

I always wondered…
What if someone never lives to see 40? Does that mean they never truly lived?

What if the gifts God placed inside you are meant to be nurtured long before then?

What if your assignment is meant to be fulfilled in your teens or twenties? Should you wait until you’re 40 to start living it?

At the African Youth SDGs Summit, one of the keynote speakers said something that instantly resonated with me:

“Life does not begin at 40.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Your youth is not just a waiting room for the future it’s a season of purpose, growth, courage, and impact.

Take that bold step now, serve wholeheartedly and make meaningful impact

How was your week?
Wait… I’ll go first.
My week was mind blowing, truly I loved it.
I was in a space filled with talented youth from different African countries and they shared incredible things they’re doing in their communities and how their works contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
I found myself saying, “Wow!” over and over again because… wow ain’t we blessed as a continent to have these precious gems as future leaders?

Now tell me how your week went?

One day, when I’m no longer a youth, I’ll look back with gratitude to God for every opportunity I had to serve.

One thing I’m learning is that networking is powerful, and its true value isn’t in how many people you know, but in the genuine relationships you build. The right room can expose you to new ideas, valuable insights, and people who challenge you to think bigger. Every conversation is an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with someone who could inspire your next step.

Watch out for some exciting collaborations with a few amazing people I had the pleasure of meeting at the African Nonprofit Summit.
@1_yovo are you readyyy??😄
