What is Beyond School Walls?

Beyond School Walls, program offers workplaces a convenient means of bringing more volunteer opportunities directly to employees through the power of mentoring😊. Beyond School Walls gives Littles a chance to experience a workplace firsthand, and Bigs an opportunity to mentor without ever leaving your office 💼🏢. Mentors and Mentees will meet two times a month at your business at a time that is convenient for the business and the school. Each mentoring session will last an hour and will be held at the business location. This program provides students with a way to learn and apply skills in a real-world setting. 💚🖤

Our CEO, Emily Herring Bryan, traveled to North Alabama alongside BBBS of the Tennessee Valley to meet with Senator Arthur Orr to thank him for his generous support of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Our agency is grateful to receive financial support from the Alabama Legislature each year!

Did you know that Senator Orr used to be a Big Brother? We love when our legislators believe in the power of mentoring! Senator Arthur Orr

We had the honor of Celebrating Sue S. Johnson’s 32 years of service to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham.

Sue’s impact and imprint will forever rest on this organization. Her passion for the youth of Greater Birmingham and beyond has been experienced by many.

Under Sue’s leadership BBBS BHM grew substantially, adding satellite offices and increasing the number of children served across multiple counties. Countless awards and distinctions were received.

Enjoy your retirement Sue! You deserve it!

"Only certain types of people can be mentors." Teachers, accountants, students, mechanics, retirees—our Bigs come from all walks of life. The only requirement is caring.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham has over 90 children waiting to be matched. Consider becoming a Big (mentor) and impacting the life of a young person forever.

This past weekend our Sister to Sister event at DIY crafts was so fun. Big and Little Sister matches bonded together while creating their very own masterpieces. We would like to give a huge shout out to @doityourselfcraftsbham for hosting and ensuring we had a great time!
