"It is a privilege to be involved in rail's next chapter."

The chairman of Barclays Bank UK, Sir John Kingman, has been appointed chair of Great British Railways, the government has announced.

His selection comes after it was revealed the headquarters for GBR will be built on the former Duckworth Square, next to the Vaillant Live entertainment venue, in Derby city centre.

The people behind it want to stay a-gnome-nymous 🤫🍄

Over 150 garden gnomes have appeared on this roundabout near Long Eaton, Derbyshire.

"Mr and Mrs Gnome" decorated it with garden gnomes "to make people smile".

A jack-knifed lorry has closed part of the A38.

Derbyshire Police initially said the route was shut southbound between Little Eaton and Palm Court, but has since confirmed the closure is at the exit for Kilburn.

Officers added one lane northbound is also closed as a result of the central reservation being "damaged and pushed into the outside lane".

"I promised to put the East Midlands back on the map."

The mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, has launched a new website and initiative with the hope of boosting the region's visitor economy by £1bn.

It is hoped the initiative will increase overnight stays and build on the success of the region's popular landmarks, including the Peak District and Sherwood Forest.

He made explosives and a "homemade cannon".

British Army chef Mark Broadhurst, from Derbyshire, was promoting extreme right-wing views and talking of raising a militia.

Officers found a "crude" homemade cannon, gunpowder, crossbows, bolts, six large knives and a baseball bat when they searched his home and barracks quarters.

"Sometimes, it becomes a bit of an afterthought."

Users of wheelchairs and mobility scooters are criticising a new £4.2m footbridge in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, which does not offer full access to the canal towpath below.

The crossing which spans the Erewash Canal to link West Park with the town centre, was opened last month.

Erewash Borough Council said there was not enough space to install a ramp and the previous bridge also did not offer access to the path.

The government said it did not offer enough value for money for the taxpayer.

The Department for Transport has formally cancelled the £197m Chesterfield-Staveley Regeneration Route which aimed to improve links between the two towns and open up space for thousands of homes.
