Strong session from the whole group tonight. 8x300m with 3 min recovery. Total distance 2,400m pace of the session 800m! @bbharriersac @blackheathboys. I had set the session with 2min rest but after watching @adam_fogg YouTube video of the same session but with an extra min rest and seeing the pace he ran the @blackheathboys wanted to get after it so we changed our session to 3min. Great to see @kc.runs back racing on Wednesday @cambridgeharriersofficial open meeting and @lolabbisch racing on Monday here. taken in Norman Park Community Sports Centre by @bbharriersac

When I was 17 years old, I remember sitting in awe watching my hero, Steve Ovett, break the world record in Rieti, Italy. Years later, in 2010, I watched another piece of history unfold as David Rudisha produced one of the greatest 800m races ever, running 1:41 in the same incredible stadium.
This week, in 2026, I was fortunate enough to return to Rieti as a coach for the European U18 Athletics Championships.
To stand in that stadium again, this time alongside one of our own athletes, was something I'll never forget.
Then came the moment every coach dreams of...
🥇 Joe Scanes – European U18 Champion.
Watching Joe put on the GB vest and produce the race of his life to become European Champion was an incredibly proud and emotional moment. His dedication, resilience and commitment over so many years have led to this achievement, and nobody deserves it more.
Congratulations, Joe. Enjoy every second of it — you've made your family, your club, your teammates, your coach and your country immensely proud.

Joe Scanes has secured gold in the men’s 3000m at the European Athletics U18 Championships 🇬🇧

The 17-year-old Brit was victorious with a personal best of 8:09.19 and produced a stunning 57.2 last lap ⚡️ by @bbharriersac

🚨 NAL record 🚨

@zaraobamakinwa set an NAL discus record of 61.87m in the Championship for hosts @bbharriersac

That includes all NAL events since the league re-formed in 2021, not including past UKWAL events. That record is Meg Ritchie’s 62.18m from 1984.
