Another year, another @downbeat_mag Critics Poll and another round of gratitude from me for the recognition amongst amazing artists around the world! Being acknowledged as both a singer and a trumpet player always warms my heart, because it reminds me I CAN be myself and just make music the way I like, and it’s received well. 🌍 🙏🏻 🫶🏻

It’s said countless times whenever these polls come out, but it bears repeating: these are critics’ objective opinions, with their own varied criteria, and just like inclusion doesn’t solely validate someone’s artistry, EXCLUSION doesn’t mean someone doesn’t have the respect and admiration of their peers and the Jazz community. Hell half the time, I think they’re just trolling us all and purposely have some egregious omissions and listings just because they know we’ll all talk about the snubs more than anything else 🤣. At first glance, I could rattle off a dozen of the most working, most killing, and most successful musicians in the scene today whose names don’t show up anywhere - it’s preposterous of course, but at the end of the day, That’s Life 🤷🏻‍♂️. I remember how it felt for years not being included, and as silly as it sounds, it hurt! I wish every bad cat I knew could get the little blurb for their bio that they appeared on a DB poll, but it is what it is. I tip my cap to everyone out there making a life out of this music we all love!! Another *pinch me* moment aboard @bottiatsea last week 🛳️ - playing “Milestones” next to two of my childhood heroes: @terellstafford & our host @chrisbottimusic 🎺 🎺 🎺 🫡.

Navigating a music career has a funny way of always moving the goalposts 🎯, finding new ways to humble you and make you feel like you’re not doing XY and Z basically every other day you try your best…so when you do get a cool gig and a chance to play with your mentors on a big stage, I hope somebody in the audience takes a good clip for you too, so you can cherish that moment and appreciate the achievements too!

The @uwwtrumpets had an INCREDIBLE time at our second annual Trumpet Day with legendary guest artist, Benny Benack III. Participants from around the area came to experience engaging trumpet and jazz improvisation workshops, and enjoyed a culminating concert to end the day. Thank you so much to our wonderful vendors, @heidmusic, @edwardsinstrumentco @getzencompany, and @carp.mouthpieces with special sponsorship shoutouts to @bachbrass and @brasstache for making the day so enjoyable.

Baby’s first @signaturecruiseexperiences #FamilyFeud and it was a hoot 😂! 🌟 🎥 🎤 📺 @familyfeud you should have @zofunny Guest Host - he’s a riot 🤣.

Amongst the myriad of events and activities the @bottiatsea cruise planned on top of our concerts, one of my favorite moments was “Star Feud” where we all split up and played for fun in the big theater - mired in controversy as @mariotvines announced the Final Round was worth *triple points* and our team led by @chrisbottimusic came from behind to win, this was from an earlier round (I got roasted for Passing but we won that category!). So much fun! In another life I was a game show contestant, I’m sure of it. 🤩

LIVE IN DENTON, TEXAS is OUT NOW 🎷

I have been sitting on this for months and I cannot believe today is finally here!

Recorded live at Paul Voertman Concert Hall with the “Fun O’Clock” Lab Band, featuring @bbjazziii and @hannahgclaire . 8 tracks, one night, no do-overs, and honestly one of the proudest things I’ve made.

This album would not exist without the people who supported it. To @mtgmitch for producing this with me, to @untrecordingservices for their master broadcasting and recording work, to Richard Sigler for mastering and engineering that made it shine, to @quinnrcameron and @anna.rose.cameron for the photos, to every single musician in the band who brought it to life on stage, and to everyone who’s cheered this on since day one, thank you.
