Coco Chartier is a New York City–based mixed media artist. Drawing from her past in New Orleans, the artist explores identity, resilience and the complexities of belonging through layered textures and urban symbolism. Blending the worlds of fine art, fashion and street culture, Chartier uses collage, graffiti, and feminine elements to create works that examine the tension between softness and survival. when I moved to Harlem from New Orleans it was out of necessity. there was no where else I could afford. but I also knew this was the closest thing to home I could find in this city. Harlem is a vibrant place full of engagement and community. it’s a place where people greet each other when we pass by. it’s families and friends and strangers who connect with each other through stoops and block parties. in a place like New York, its like a familiar oasis. we deal with a lot up here, but the strength of community makes you forget for a moment. so welcome to the party ;) taken in Harlem, New York City by @bbygrl.coco
