Live Review: BC#9 Captures Underground Halloween Magic in Hypnotic, Heavy LP Mix.
While modern electronic sets often feel like a frantic race against the clock, veteran selector BC#9 takes a radically different, masterful approach on his newly unearthed live set. Recorded a few years back at an intimate, underground Halloween rave, this LP (Long Playing) mix is a masterclass in narrative pacing. Deliberately steering away from his signature rapid-fire, 60-songs-in-60-minutes mixing style, BC#9 slows things down to let the music breathe, constructing a gritty, cinematic journey specifically designed for "The Experience."
The set beautifully bottles the raw, unfiltered energy of a late-night warehouse party. By giving tracks room to evolve, the transitions feel less like quick cuts and more like atmospheric shifts, drawing the listener deep into a dark, immersive world.• The Journey Over the Clock: Rather than overwhelming the dancefloor with constant, hyperactive drops, BC#9 treats this set like a classic LP. The arrangement is deliberate, building immense tension through extended intros and complex double-drops that reward the listener’s patience.
• Pure Warehouse Filth: True to his promise to "enjoy the filth," the track selection leans heavily into the dark, mechanical side of drum and bass. Expect distorted reese basslines, gritty techstep rollers, and sinister, sci-fi-infused neurofunk that perfectly mirrors the eerie, underground Halloween setting.
• Immersive Atmosphere: Because tracks are allowed to play out, the rich textures, eerie vocal samples, and haunting pads have time to establish a genuine mood. It captures the exact, hypnotic headspace of being locked on a dark dancefloor at 3:00 AM.
The Verdict
This live set is a refreshing reminder of what makes underground dance music so special. By prioritizing vibe, progression, and cohesion over flashiness, BC#9 delivers a powerful sonic journey that stays true to the roots of heavy drum and bass. It is dark, hypnotic, uncompromisingly filthy, and an absolute must-listen for anyone who wants to lose themselves in a true musical experience rather than a standard playlist. New jungle coming soon, in the spirit of Dr. Yarmani. Following the devastation of the village on Odo Island, Yamane was invited to a special session of the Diet to hear survivors' accounts and offer his thoughts. He recommended an investigation party be sent to the island, subsequently heading the team. Upon arrival, his team discovered that areas in the wake of the destruction had been exposed to massive radiation; these areas had been pounded with a trail of holes in the ground, which Yamane identified as footprints of a large creature. In one of these footprints, he also discovered a well-preserved trilobite. The investigation was interrupted by the sudden reappearance of the creature beyond a hill. Yamane took several photographs before fleeing with the islanders; the creature soon retreated into the ocean, leaving a new trail of footprints.
Immediately upon the return of the investigative party, another Diet session was held, at which Dr. Yamane presented his findings, including the trilobite and sediment from the footprints dense in Strontium-90, a byproduct of hydrogen bombs. Yamane identified the creature as an intermediary (land- and sea-going) dinosaur from the Jurassic age, based on carbon-dating the sediment, and named it "Godzilla," in accordance with an Odo Island legend. #jungle #junglist #dnb #dryarmani #godzilla by @bc9dnb
