We are so grateful to be taking home these awards! Congratulations to the whole 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼 𝗡𝗼 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 team! These recognitions would not have been possible without everyone’s hard work, dedication, and belief in this film. Every person who became part of this journey helped bring it to life, and we are so thankful for each and every one of you! We are also grateful for everyone who watched, loved, and supported 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼 𝗡𝗼 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲. We hope that Mono No Aware gave you something more than the awards it gave us. We hope it gave you a little more meaning, a little more hope in life. Let’s all remind ourselves that there will always be reasons to keep going. There will always be something worth holding on to. 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘰 𝘕𝘰 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 is not just a film. It’s an experience that you have to go through, no matter how tiring it can be, because the payoff at the end brings peace and comfort. Maraming pagkakataon na habang pinapanood ang pelikulang ito ay gusto mo na rin itong sukuan. Nakakabagot. Nakakainip. Nakakalungkot. Kahit naka-go ang stoplight, nakakatamad umandar. Kahit maganda tingnan ang mga buildings, hindi mo ito gustong pasukan. Ang mga upuan ay naging display na lamang. Walang buhay ang mga bagay kung walang tao na gumagamit. Hahanapin mo ang mga tao sa bawat eksena. Bagamat may ipinapakitang mga karakter, hinahanap mo kung nasaan ang kanilang kaluluwa. Kapag kinakausap sila, madalas ay walang gana. Nawawalan ka rin ng gana manood. Walang ka-buhay-buhay ang mga nangyayari. Pero sa kabila ng paghihirap sa panonood, ang hirap din nitong iwanan. Kailangan mo siyang tapusin hanggang umabot ka sa dulo. Tulad lang din ng buhay na mahirap pakawalan, ang pelikulang ito ay hindi mo rin masukuan. Hihintayin mo kung hanggang saan ang kanilang hangganan. Knowing that the story revolves around life and death makes you want to stay until the very end. Even when you can already sense where it is heading, you still want to see and experience it for yourself. From something mundane and boring, it then becomes calming and comforting. The ending is worth the wait. For a film that lingers on death, it’s only fitting to say that both actors have brought life to the characters. Looking back at their journey, it may not seem as exciting, but there is still something to look forward to. The scenery that once looked empty may carry a different meaning anew, with the thought that those spaces can eventually be filled. Without showing too much, it makes you see what matters more. Without overdoing things, it makes you feel both the losses and gains. As 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘰 𝘕𝘰 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 means sadness due to the impermanence of things, the film finds appreciation in their existence. Since bukas na ang opening ng CinePanalo, I just want to take a moment to show my appreciation for the one, @juankarlos . I have so much respect for his dedication and work ethic. I learned a lot from him throughout this journey, and he gave me a unique perspective through his life, his art, and the way he approaches his craft. We loved the energy, the laughter, and all the fun moments we shared, both on and off screen. I’m truly grateful for everything he brought to this film and to the experience of making it. This is my second film with ‘the’ Perry Dizon, and I have so much respect for the man. The dedication, the wisdom, and the passion, man, it’s all there! Madami akong nabitbit na kaalaman mula kay Tito Perry mula pa noong nagkakilala kami sa Gulay Lang, Manong! Pero dito sa @mono.no.aware.film , iba ang atake. He was the first cast member we locked. We talked a lot about the world, the character, and the cultures. Yes, plural, because while this film is set in Japan and the characters speak Japanese, they are both Bisaya. We spent a lot of time talking, kahit online dahil nasa Davao si Tito P, and slowly, the character started to come alive. Before our flights to Japan, we also had several intense conversations about the character. I’m always amazed by how he navigates the mindset of his character and builds a whole personality from what’s written on the page. Since I wrote the lines in Filipino and I don’t speak Bisaya, Tito P was kind enough to translate the lines, not just literally, but in a way that captured how his character would actually say them and, more importantly, what he would mean by them. Sobrang galing talaga. He’s such an underrated actor, and I really hope I get to make more films with Tito P.
