BCFREMS committed to advancing pre-hospital care by expanding the paramedic’s scope of practice. Under the leadership of BCFREMS Medical Director, Dr. Ford, Station 41 crews were trained how to use Point-of-Care-Ultrasound (POCUS) as part of the patient assessment. BCFREMS crews learned to identify:
	• Chest anatomy and abdominal structures
	• Pneumothorax
	• Peritoneal hemorrhage and retroperitoneal hemorrhage
	• Veins for IV cannulation
	• Conduct the EFAST exam

This ongoing training strengthens clinical accuracy, enhances early recognition of critical conditions, and leads to better patient outcomes across our system.

The best part of the day is spending time with our crews visiting, learning, and responding alongside them. Today was a busy and rewarding day with the BCFR Medical Director out in the field. Thank you to the crews from Engine 26 and Rescue 26, Truck 24, Rescue 23, Rescue 24, and Engine 40 for welcoming us in and allowing us to tag along throughout the day. Your professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to exceptional patient care were on full display.

Your work continues to strengthen our system and elevate the standard of care across Brevard County. Proud of the excellence you deliver every day.

Any day we get to recognize our teams is a good day and we recently recognized Rescue 67 (C). Crews from BCFR and Melbourne Fire responded to a 65‑year‑old male in need of urgent care. The team quickly identified the seriousness of his condition and activated a Stroke Alert.
@HealthFirst later praised the crew for achieving a 19‑minute door‑to‑needle time and rapid reperfusion leading to the patient being discharged home shortly after.
Outstanding teamwork and clinical excellence. Our people, the best part of BCFR. Thank you for a job well done. #ItTakesAVillage #BCFREMS #EMS #wecare #EMSOfficer by @bcfrems

It doesn’t get any better than spending time with our crews and showing appreciation for the work they do. BCFR Engine 86 and Rescue 86 responded to a 71‑year‑old patient with chest pain. They quickly identified a STEMI, activated a Cardiac Alert, and transported the patient without delay to @OrlandoHealth Sebastian River Hospital.
Hospital staff later praised the team for their clear communication and rapid actions, which allowed the patient to go straight to the Cath Lab where a 100% LAD blockage was found and treated.

Proud to take part in this year’s AHA Walkathon. The #BCFREMS team joined partners and community members from across Brevard County to walk for survivors, honor those we’ve lost, and support those who couldn’t walk themselves.
Recognizing the early signs of heart attack and stroke, learning CPR, and activating 911 quickly are critical steps that save lives. Our team remains committed to educating and serving our community. When seconds count, you can count on us.
A BIG thank you to BCFREMS Community Paramedic Jon Weiss for providing CPR demonstrations throughout the event and empowering others to act with confidence.

Great way to wrap up the week teaching the ALS for the Basic Provider course to our new EMT recruits. This course is designed to strengthen the workflow between EMTs and paramedics by introducing ALS concepts and skills to the basic provider. The goal is simple: prepare EMTs to effectively support paramedics during ALS care and enhance team-based patient management. Topics covered included:

Advanced Airways (Assist) ✅
Pharmacology (Assist) ✅
ECG monitor application & Basic interpretation (Assist)✅
High Performance CPR (Pit Crew) ✅
Common Medical Emergencies ✅
Transport Ventilator (Assist) ✅
IV & IO insertion ✅
Q&A with Medical Director team ✅

It’s always inspiring to see our newest EMTs lean in, ask questions, and build the foundation for strong ALS teamwork. Proud of the future we’re building together.

The best part of my week is getting out to visit our crews and remind them how much we appreciate the incredible work they do every single day.
This week, we stopped by Station 86 (A‑Shift) to recognize their rapid assessment and early identification of a Stroke patient. Their quick access, early treatment, and rapid transport made all the difference and their patient has now made a full recovery. Our hospital partners at @OrlandoHealth Sebastian Hospital shared the following with the crew: “Without the fast-acting crew of Station 86, the outcome for this patient could have been very different, with the potential for severe and long-lasting deficits.” Outstanding work and thank you for a job well done!!! Also, a BIG thank you to our partners at @OrlandoHealth for joining us in celebrating this success. #ItTakesAVillage #BCFREMS #EMS #leadership #EMSOfficer by @bcfrems

The best part of the day is celebrating the outstanding work our men and women deliver every single day. The BCFREMS team visited Station 80 (B) to recognize the crew for their rapid assessment and persistence in caring for a patient who had fallen and was initially refusing transport. Despite minimal outward signs of trauma, the crew recognized the potential severity of the situation, ensured the patient was transported, and appropriately issued a Trauma Alert. Their instincts were right, the patient was later diagnosed with a serious head injury at the hospital.
Exceptional work by an exceptional team. Thank you to our Health First partners for joining us in recognizing the BCFR crew, submitting them for recognition, and sharing in the celebration. #ItTakesAVillage #BCFREMS #EMS #leadership #wecare welldone BCFREMSProud weloveourpeople EMSOfficer by @bcfrems

The best part of the week, taking time to celebrate the incredible work of our BCFR EMS crew from Station 47 (B), whose swift recognition of a Large Vessel Occlusive (LVO) Stroke & rapid transport to the nearest Thrombectomy Center led to a life-changing outcome.
In a powerful moment, the patient now thriving reunited with the BCFR crew and the @healthfirstflorida hospital staff, sharing her recovery through music as she played the piano once again. Thank you to the BCFR crew & hospital team for your clinical precision, compassion, and commitment to excellence. Thank you for a job well done & keep up the great work!!! #ItTakesAVillage #BCFREMSProud #EMS #weloveourpeople #EMSOfficer by @bcfrems
