Did you know that, contrary to popular belief, vultures don't fly in circles because there's a dead animal nearby? (Well, most of the time.)

They use rising columns of warm air called thermals to gain altitude without flapping their wings much. Once they're high enough, they glide over long distances while searching for food.

Other vultures may join them, taking advantage of the same rising air.

Today, we celebrate #WorldAnimalDay, a reminder of the incredible diversity of life that surrounds us and the importance of every species in our ecosystem.

But beyond celebrating, this day is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of protecting our planet every single day. By learning, staying informed, and understanding the role each species plays in nature, we can take meaningful steps toward preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystems and ensuring that thousands of species continue to thrive alongside us.

Because protecting wildlife isn't just about celebrating animals once a year. It's about caring for the world we share, every single day. 🐾🌎 taken in World by @bcnannini.wild

Another year, another participation in the @festivaltoh's photography contest, and this time I got an Honorable Mention with my picture called "Relevo Parental".

This photography shows a golden-fronted woodpecker (Melanerpes aurifrons) couple taking turns to take care of their nest and probably their nestling, with one of them carrying food in its mouth and the other checking if everything is ok.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants!

Did you know that motmots are related to kingfishers? They both belong to the Coraciiformes order, the same broad group that also includes bee-eaters and rollers.

I’m obsessed with raptors, even if I always struggle to find them (kinda the point, right?). That’s why every sighting feels special, and even more so when I manage to capture it!

Common doesn't mean ugly, just look at the amazing shades of blue on this great-tailed grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus)

And an extra point for the nictitating membrane covering his eye 👁
