منير الشامي، موسيقي وفنان بصري فلسطيني كندي مقيم في أثينا. تتنقل ممارسته الفنية بين الموسيقى والصورة المتحركة والصوت. ويتطور عمله من خلال اشتغال مستمر على السرديات التاريخية والشخصية، والتي يجمع بينها عبر الصوت والصورة. وهو عضو مؤسس في المشروع الموسيقي والتجريبي (بوست بانك / Post-punk) الذي يحمل اسم "WHIMM".

خلال فترة إقامته، يجري الشامي أبحاثاً للتحضير لفيلم وثائقي (غير روائي) يتتبع أوجه الشبه بين يافا في فلسطين المحتلة ووسط فلوريدا، وذلك من خلال تاريخ وحاضر زراعة الحمضيات. وبحثه هذا يدرس كيف ساهمت التصنيع الزراعي للحمضيات والوجود الاستعماري في تشكيل الأرض والعمالة وصحة بساتين الحمضيات. كما يتتبع البحث خيوط العلاقات بين فلوريدا والكيان الصهيوني حول استخدامات التكنولوجيا الزراعية، بدءاً من الجهود المبذولة لمكافحة مرض "تخضير الحمضيات" (Citrus Greening)، وصولاً إلى تشابك مفهوم "الابتكار" مع العسكرة.

Mounir Al Shami, a resident in the houseguest program, is a Palestinian-Canadian musician and visual artist based in Athens. His practice moves between music, moving image, and sound. His work develops through an ongoing engagement with historical and personal narratives, which he brings together through sound and image. He is a founding member of the post-punk/experimental music project WHIMM.

During his residency at mmag, Al Shami is researching toward a non-fiction film that traces parallels between Yafa, occupied Palestine, and Central Florida through the history and present of citrus agriculture. The research examines how citrus industrialization and colonial presence have shaped land, labor, and the health of citrus orchards. The research follows the thread of Florida-the zionist state relations around the uses of agricultural technology, from efforts to combat citrus greening disease to the entanglement of “innovation” with militarization. by @be_cause_i

We’re proud to be among the 62+ contributing artists.

All proceeds from this compilation will support Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah’s Children’s fund. Dr. Ghassan had volunteered extensively in Gaza throughout multiple crises. During this genocide, he worked in both Al-Ahli and Shifa hospitals. He was a survivor of the Ahli Hospital bombing which killed hundreds. His press conference outside of the hospital, surrounded by dead bodies, will be etched in our memories forever. He has now established a Children’s Fund which aims to treat injured children, rebuild the destroyed medical infrastructure, and establish a sponsorship program for 20,000+ orphans from the conflict.

A very special thank you to @mayss_88 and Dreaming Live for the initiative and coordinating all this.
