Get Me A Stone brings together a series of paintings by Rosalind Nashashibi, produced between 2021 and 2026, alongside the film Occupation of The Inner Life (2026). It emerges from the artist's affective and political engagement with the current situation in the Gaza Strip.

Through painting and film, Nashashibi reflects on memory, exile, and resistance. In the face of the violence conveyed by images, painting becomes a space where the symbolic and the affective acquire a political dimension. The exhibition includes Occupation of The Inner Life, a film that connects the process of painting with intimate experience, revealing the affective ties that underpin both artistic practice and political commitment.

AMAonline (the digital editorial platform of Artium MuseoA) is conceived as a tool to sustain an ongoing dialogue and engagement with the audiences of the museum and to build communities around its various programs on a wider scale. While the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque country is currently making its building more porous to the exterior, through projects like Plazaratu, likewise, AMAonline articulates the wish for the museum to create deeper and more varied connections with its audience beyond traditional spectatorship and attendance.

AMAonline shares what the museum stands for, but also how its mission and its role are the object of continuous thinking and learning, and never taken for granted. Extending its digital, online presence offers new ways of presenting, promoting, and discussing the works and ideas of the artists and thinkers who are at the center of the museum program. Yet, it also implies to examine how the extended time spent online, which is such an important characteristic of the current moment, is affecting the way we read, think, and engage with art and with the world more generally.

AMAonline is structured around three sections, each inspired by different works by the late feminist science fiction writer Ursula K. Le Guin: while Harvesting Knowledge derives from her influential essay “The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction”, A Matter of Words and No Time To Spare directly quote two of her last collections of short-forms.

Zeharkatzen ari garen momentu latzgarri hauetan elkarrekin gauzak egiteak asko esan nahi du. Eta museoko taldeari eskerrik asko egindako lan guztiagatik

Three weeks ago, I Baschi alla Biennale 1976/2026, a project promoted by the Basque Government, opened to the public.

The exhibition revisits the participation of Basque artists, poets, musicians and members of civil society who travelled to Venice in 1976 at the invitation of the Biennale. At that historic moment, they drew attention to the political situation in Spain after Franco’s death and called for Amnistia Denontzat (Amnesty for All).

Get Me A Stone

The Return, 2026 (detail). Photo: Stephen White & Co.]

______________

Me A Stone features a series of paintings relating to Palestine produced between 2021 and 2026 by Rosalind Nashashibi, as well as the film Occupation of the Inner Life (2026). These works reflect an emotional and political engagement with the current situation in the Gaza Strip.

Although it is evident in Nashashibi’s work that her two main media, film and painting, permeate each other, in the case of the aforementioned works there is something that painting can bring forth with particular force, counteracting the brutality of the images we have witnessed in the last two and a half years, without turning its back on the necessary acknowledgment of that violence.

For Nashashibi, the history of painting provides a constant reflection on composition in relation to the historical moments in which certain works emerge. But painting may also be a way of relating to what endures in the distance, a way of working on the distance imposed by exile.

In 1976, Basque artists, musicians poets and members of civil society gathered in Venice to mark the beginning of a social process shaped by the transformations that followed the death of the dictator Francisco Franco in November 1975.

From a contemporary perspective, the 1976 Biennale can be understood not as an isolated event, but as a decisive turning point from which we can respond to a present marked by the resurgence of totalitarianism and its violence.

This presentation brings together works that revisit this moment from multiple perspectives: its political and historical context, the emergence of experimental practices across film, music, and poetry, the formation of collaborative networks, and the development of an archive that continues to function as a living resource for research and reflection.

The selection includes films by Néstor Basterretxea, Fernando Larruquert, and José Antonio Sistiaga, among others, alongside the poetic and sonic explorations of Joxean Artze, Jexux Artze, and Mikel Laboa, as well as works from the museum’s collection: The Burgos Trial (Demonstration) by Mari Puri Herrero and Dobla (Fold) by Damaris Pan.

Furthermore, on 7 and 8 May, the project extends into performance, featuring works by Itziar Okariz and the Tripak collective at Palazzo Contarini.
