There’s nothing like that first turkey feeling!

Two years ago, right before turkeys season started, I decided I’d try to pick up a @sweetwatercalls diaphragm and try to get at least somewhat decent with it. Once I could hit a few yelps that didn’t sound half bad, I hit the woods running!

At the time, I had college Monday-Friday 8-12, and as soon as I got out of class everyday in Louisiana, I’d drive to 2,500 acres in Arkansas that I deer hunt.
•
Let’s just say all of those evening hunts were VERY quiet! It finally got to the weekend and my cousin decide he’d go to South side of the property so I cut out trotting towards the North side. I had a few turkeys in the distance, but they gobbled at dark and NOTHING after daybreak which made it difficult. My cousin ended up bagging one and told me there was another one that was with him.
•
After the tom a little time to calm down, I put my boots on the ground towards the South side. I made it to the edge of this pasture at 11:40 A.M. I pulled out @onxhunt without calling one bit. BOOM!! He fired off what sounded about 300 yards through the hardwoods. I walked about 100 yards down this grassy four wheeler trail, set up, and hit a yelp (the only time I called). He cut me off about 100 yards out, and my heart started POUNDING!
•
I had blinking battery on my camera so as soon as he came around the corner, I hit play. As he made his 75 yard stroll hunting for his hen. I don’t think I took a single breath until the shot was taken…

Definitely a hunt that I’ll never forget!

Arkansas dove opener this past weekend was one for the books. Had an awesome time with an amazing crew! Ended up💥almost 350 for the weekend! I was too busy throwing the gun up instead of the camera🤦🏻‍♂️

This season’s been a grind with my work schedule - felt like every hunt was in the middle of a storm. With the late start to the season, getting a bird to respond was tough enough, let alone after bad weather. Put in the miles, almost skipped going back to a spot I hit earlier that morning, but something told me to push through.

Yesterday was one that I will never forget!
-
Pulled in my usual little parking spot down my uncles shooting lane. Since I was running a little late, I had to chug the rest of my coffee, threw my backpack on, grabbed my gun, and quickly realized that I didn’t have my vest on. After readjusting and gathering gear, I made my trek to a spot I roosted one on Sunday night.

I sat down about 200 yards from his usual spot. I hit a soft call at 6:20 A.M. NOT A PEEP… After sitting there for about 45 minutes, one fired off in the complete opposite direction. I decided to pack up and head his way since the other one wasn’t talking.

As I’m walking down the trail, he fired off about 175 yards out around a curve. I immediately set up and get on the other side of the road so I can at least see him coming. Turns out I was hide like a lizard, and I couldn’t see a thing with my own eyes. The camera could see it all though! I’m just watching the monitor like a TV screen waiting on this dude to show him self.

About that time, he shows him self. Not only him, but two other long beards were running with him. A crow fires off and they all hammer! I’m pumped!! What only took 2 minutes and 55 seconds for them to make there way to about 15 yards out, felt like a lifetime! I just wish I could’ve stopped him from flopping on the rocks so much… he definitely messed his feathers up..

Between the friends that have been around forever and the endless new friendships made every year, it is all about the fellowship in the woods and the crazy things that happen along the way!

Other than one minor hiccup, dropping my phone in 15 feet of water on the last week, this season has been one for the books! We might’ve lost a lot of good photo/video memories, but there were tons of new ones made. #troublesofeditingthroughaniphone
