The scene of the accident: the cleat on the dock a little to close to Camelot’s swim step. Close enough to distract me with the thought’I should have paid attention to this’ as my right toe slipped into the water. But not so far that my body missed sliding against the dock on the way into the water. Imagine the cartoon with the bubbles passing the character’s face. That’s when I discovered that the swim ladder is one rung short. I get by with a LOT of help from my friends. Wooden Boat Festival - I won’t forget! by @beamewesed

I didn’t post this .photo correctly so the story is in pieces.

My friend Joyce Logan passed yesterday. She made it to 90 and was a huge part of my travels. Here’s how her story was shared with Ben and me. Island Yacht Club members can fill in the blanks.

Born in Michigan in 1936, Joyce’s family moved to Valdez AK. Her husband bought Joyce a fishing boat and she and her four daughters had a lively time on the ocean. (I’ve seen the newspaper articles!)

Joyce loved Alaska but her husband not so much and he returned to the Lower 48.

Sooner or later Joyce met, loved, and married John Logan, a road engineer. They bought the Skwentna Roadhouse and continued it’s history as the first checkpoint of The Iditerod Sled Dog Race. The racers loved Joyce and her cooking.

During the school year, Joyce and John provided a home for the school children living in The Bush. Joyce was full of stories and of traveling through the remote Alaskan Wilderness to get provisions, mail and other items.

Joyce and John entered my story after they retired and bought a cruising sailboat in Alameda sometime in the 90’s. Of course it required refitting and Joyce took over the IYC galley until they set sail for Mexico.

By 2013 that adventure had ended with John and Joyce buying a Snowbird home outside of Phoenix. Ben and I were lucky to visit them on our route to GEORGIA in Guaymas until they returned to Wasilla by @beamewesed
