Last night, we lost a truly good soul, my dad, my twin, and the person who genuinely taught me that fighting until the very end is always worth it.

Dad, I know we had our ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change our relationship or the way we found our way back to each other for the world. You fought endlessly and tirelessly for three long years, and I hope you knew just how incredibly proud we all were of you. You showed us what strength, courage, and determination truly look like.

I will hold onto every memory we shared for the rest of my life. So much of who you were will continue to live on through me, Aydin, and Armaan forever. Your contagious laugh, your smile, your sense of humor, your strength, and the way you loved will never be forgotten.

Thank you for helping shape me into the strong, loud, funny woman I am today. Thank you for giving me so many pieces of yourself that I’ll get to carry with me forever. And, of course, thank you for giving me your looks, because now I’ll get to spend the rest of my life hearing, “You look just like your dad.” That comment will mean more to me now than anyone could ever understand.

Happy Birthday to the best mom and the best friend a girl could ever ask for.
I truly don’t know what I would do without you. You are my inspiration, my biggest cheerleader, my rock, and the person I can always turn to no matter what. Thank you for always being there for me, even when you have your own battles and worries. That says so much about the kind of person and mother you are. You have shown me what real strength looks like, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. You’ve been through things that most people couldn’t even imagine, yet you continue to live your life with so much strength, positivity, grace, and love. You have survived the impossible, and you never let the hardest moments define you. Instead, you’ve used them to become an even more incredible woman. I admire you more than you’ll ever know, and you are truly the person I aspire to be.
I thank God every single day that He gave you another chance at life. I don’t think you’ll ever fully understand how blessed I feel that I still get to call you my mom and my best friend. I honestly don’t know where I would be or who I would be without you. The thought of life without you is something I never want to imagine, and I will never take for granted the gift of having you here with me. God knew exactly what He was doing when He gave us more time with you, and I will forever be grateful for that blessing. Thank you for always being my biggest supporter, especially during the times when I’m not doing my best. You never stop believing in me, encouraging me, and reminding me of who I am when I forget. You always know how to make me laugh, even on my worst days. Everyone who knows us knows we can laugh over absolutely nothing for hours, and those are some of my favorite memories. Your presence alone can completely change my day, and I hope you know how much light you bring into my life. I love you more then words could ever describe. It’s been one year since the worst day of my life, the day you passed away, left this earth, and left all of us behind. Not a single day has gone by that I haven’t missed you, loved you, or wished I could hug you one more time.

For so long, I’ve been so angry at the world and at everyone for taking you away from us so soon. It never felt fair. I still catch myself asking why someone as kind, loving, and selfless as you had to leave.

But sitting here writing this is making me realize something. Maybe I shouldn’t be angry that you were taken from us. Maybe I should be grateful that you’re no longer suffering, that you’re finally at peace, and that you’re in the most beautiful place above us, watching over all of us as our guardian angel.

Papa, you are and always will be my best friend in the whole world. You will always be my heart, my smile, and my reason to keep going when life gets hard. You taught me what unconditional love looks like, and you continue to inspire me every single day because your legacy lives on through every person whose life you touched.

The things I miss the most are your hugs, your laugh, your jokes that made absolutely no sense, and of course your constant mispronunciation of words. I miss hearing your voice. I miss sitting with you. I miss the little moments that never felt little until they were gone.

I promise to keep making you proud. I’ll live every day with the same love, compassion, kindness, and joy that you showed everyone around you.
