Update + Where We Are Today 🤍

This week, we had our second-opinion appointment with MD Anderson. They reviewed and retested my tumor and completed their own testing. We are so thankful for the privilege of living in a city where we have access to such incredible medical care.

Through all of this, Manny and I have seen God’s hand. We can look back at where we started, look at where we are today, and see how God has continued to walk with us every step of the way. Through the good news and even through the hard news, we see HIM. 🤍

Why am I sharing?
I’ve always been an open book, and social media has always been a way for me to stay connected with people near and far. If sharing my story and testimony can encourage someone, help someone walking through something similar, or simply offer another perspective — then why not share? ❤️

So, here it is:
I have Stage 3 Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma, a rare and generally slower-growing subtype of kidney cancer that makes up only about 5% of kidney cancer cases. Because of its rarity, surgery is the treatment for me at this time.

Where we are today:
As of today, the cancer has been successfully removed! 🙌🏽 My current scans show NO signs of the cancer returning and no new growth.

We are waiting for final confirmation in about 9 days, but right now it is looking like my next step will simply be surveillance — scans and bloodwork every three months for the foreseeable future, unless my medical team recommends otherwise.

We are also waiting on genetic testing results, which will hopefully give us more clarity and information specific to my case.

For every meal, every visit, every phone call, every text, every prayer, and every single act of love… thank you.

I don’t think you all fully understand what it has meant to both of us. In the moments that felt heavier, your prayers helped hold us up.

God has truly been our source of strength through all of this, and I’ve seen His love and faithfulness shown to us time and time again through our friends, our family, and our church family.

MAMA BEAR. Happy Mother’s Day to you my Sophia. This day feels oh so different from others because of the season we are in. Regardless of it all I have seen you become STRONGER, love our boys DEEPER. Amongst countless doctors appointments you haven’t missed a single school event, or soccer game. You’ve been the boys biggest cheerleader even when it hasn’t been easy. “I can do difficult things” 🫶🏽

Life update 💙
In mid-March, during testing ordered by my cardiologist to better understand the cause of my frequent migraines, an ultrasound of my kidney revealed something abnormal. This led my primary care doctor to move forward with additional testing, including blood work and an abdominal MRI.

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been many possibilities discussed about what this could be. But through every step, we have truly seen God at work.

Initially, they found a mass in my abdomen that was believed to possibly involve the kidney and liver, with concerns it could be spreading. After further testing and a biopsy, we received incredible news — the tumor, although large, is an oncocytoma, which is benign. No cancer! 🙌🏽

My oncologist is now consulting with a urologist before moving forward with surgery, as they want to carefully evaluate the liver.

While there are still many questions and more testing ahead, we are so grateful for what God has done and continues to do in this season. It hasn’t been easy, but He has been with me every step of the way.

My Levi-Benjamin got to experience a couple days being trained at the @houstondynamo training facilities and was able to experience a contract signing with their GM. He got to tour the stadium and hear all about the Dynamo. The Houston Dynamo hold a special place in our hearts not just for the love of soccer but it’s the place Manny asked me to marry him and just so many memories for Manny & I.
