Whimsy ~

It may have felt like I was simply holding space for you. My dear friend, we were dancing. I held frame for you, inviting you to the space. As you filled it, we moved in time, awkwardly at first. Learning how to feel the music and the rhythm in our bodies. With the music filling our bodies, I tune into your timing, learn to feel your flow, allow your energy to dislodge and move out. Keep my mouth shut and let you speak, let you feel, let you emote now that you have started. Letting you flow like a river as I am the banks that you fill.

Neither trying to control. No dragging, no domination, no leading. Only presence as we both allow what is... the essence of us both to unfold and reveal itself in this moment. I don’t steer you. I do not resolve. I step, you step. You step, I step and we weave connection as we move. Grounded, I hold that connection for you, hoping you feel safe and anchored in midst of your storm.

We share awareness. You spin. I pivot to catch you against my chest and breathe in the smell of your hair. You jump. I lift you higher and guide you back to your feet to soften the landing just a touch. You break and run, then turn to look and find me waiting for your return. Tension and release, separation and pull, emotion and ease, silence and symphony. We are natural and alive.

As we continue, sharing space and energy and air, you breathe out, I breathe in; I breathe out, you breathe in... we realize that there is no orchestra, no band. The music has been coming from within us as we sense and absorb each other’s energy. Building on it, and sending it back and forth as I see and acknowledge you and you acknowledge the safety of the space we are filling together with our emotions and our movements.

Tree Teachers~

Are the trees trying to teach me of love?
I’ve noticed that the summer
and fall breezes in the trees
have a richness in sound.
A joy of carrying storm clouds
bringing respite through droplets of love.
Leaves trying to hold the wind,
desperate to gain the wisdom of its song
as they release oxygen and water
back into the air.
Leaf and wind, collaborating
to create a richness of sound.

And when that wisdom is finally gained,
a shedding.
A tribute of gratitude back to the earth.
Thank you for the gift of leaves
that help me to catch
the wisdom of the windsong.
An exchange signaling
the relentless march of season.
And the wind sounds hollow…
crying…
grieving…
yearning.
As it blows through empty branches,
searching for the love that held it,
hungry for the wholeness,
the completeness,
the way the leaves entangled with it
so both could dance as partners
and be more together than possible alone

A love departed,
to be recalled from within the trees
by the robins’ and meadowlarks’ song
as they leave their sanctuaries
in the cedars and junipers of the foothills
and the snowline retreats up the mountain.

A touch
A glance
A hug that lingers
where I don’t stop squeezing

A traded song
A late night text
A space held with room
for all the feelings
A butterfly on my hand
A dragonfly playing on the breeze
A tiny praying mantis on my finger
Stray fingers along your arm
as I walk past you
goosebumps for me too
wheni feel yours rise
into my fingerprints
A squeeze of the buttcheek
as we fill the grocery cart
our bodies finding reasons
to constantly be in contact
Fingers interlaced
as our lips meet and part
and our tongues search
Skin. Salt. Saliva
Whispers tangled in your hair
Moments… if there is a god
moments are why god gave me
capacity to store memories.
