Check out our October cover stars, @theteskeybrothers!

They're coming home.

A decade on from Half Mile Harvest — the album they cut to tape in a shed
and never expected anyone to hear — the Warrandyte pair open @melbjazzfestival at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, with funk royalty @funkyfredwesley and @emilywurramara_ alongside them.

@kinggizzard, meanwhile, built themselves a modular synth they named Nathan and an album, Alien Metal, that nearly broke them in the making; both turn up at their own block party with @thecroxtonbandroom

@thatgalro sits with the unresolved on Bad Things Feel Good at @howlermelbourne, @juicewebster chases the gap between the self you perform and the one you are at the @cornerhotel and Philip Slabber steps out of @crookedcolours on his own for the first time, via @northcotetheatre.

Plus, down at the @theworkersclub, Swampfest turns a punk-rock day into a fundraiser for the @blackdoginst with @kittyhawksband.

Pick a room and get out there!

Our September cover star is @sarahawarding from @fatfruitprojects, who's premiering The Legend Of Queen Kong at @melbfringe with @becthepatternclasher, @asphyxia16 and more!

Around it, Go-Betweens legend @robertforster_official defines love as a set of small habits, @swapmeetband embrace a country that's finally listening; @harminia_ drags Visual Kei into the local guitar underground and finds a crowd already fluent in it. @bodytypeband hit a decade and keep moving, @jackgraymusic swims in wet denim, @michaelcelent takes his first bow at the @thetoffintown and @maquina_peligrosa smuggle out a surf-punk seven-inch with help from some puppets.

Spring has sprung, the windows are finally open. Go smell the roses.

Our August cover star is @lina_zabaleta_ from @chuleo.club!

The femme-led LatinX collective is seizing Melbourne Town Hall on 28 August, at the heart of this year's @nowornever.melb program. Two years ago Lina was negotiating for a room, now she's taking the whole building.

Elsewhere in this month's mag, The Drones talk about critical acclaim, @zeliarose comes home for Dita Von Teese's Nocturnelle, denimowl concede that a debut album is probably allowed; and @staywise asks whether a lack of curiosity is quietly killing club culture. Elsewhere, @selvemusic return from Abbey Road with a record sung in Jabirr Jabirr language, @theprettylittles' say exactly what they think, and @verabluemusic reintroduces herself on her own terms.

Pick up a copy for free at 1,000 locations around Naarm today!

On Country: Photography from Australia gathers Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to look at how images shape ideas of place, belonging and identity.

The works dig into the ways Country, colonialism and community connect in Australia right now, using photography to get there.

Curators’ tours run on 17 October at 11am and 1pm, with artists in attendance.

Few gigs promise funny songs about women, a Joy McKean tribute and Al Pacino jokes in one night, but @williamsonami does.

Ami Williamson’s One Woman Show rolls into Wesley Anne on 23 October, with two sets and no support act, so she has the room to herself all night.

She’s the daughter of country music artist John Williamson and has toured alongside him, but Ami Williamson has also taken the stage in classical settings, and has carved out a fiercely independent path as a singer-songwriter.

Her sound moves from indie-folk into more jazz-influenced songs, and her shows pair serious musicianship with a sharp sense of humour.
