The premiere of Verdi’s Otello is tonight at the @estoniannationalopera ! ❤️‍🔥

Here are my 4 tips to help you efficiently learn an opera as an instrumentalist, especially given its extensive length and the need for strategic practice:

❤️‍🔥 1. Skim through the entire opera to identify key moments like solos and challenging sections.

❤️‍🔥 2. Listen to the opera as performed by your favorite orchestra and singers while reviewing your part. Skip sections that don’t involve you.

❤️‍🔥 3. Play through everything, including the seemingly “unimportant” parts, as these can sometimes be the most exposed.

❤️‍🔥 4. Stay attentive during rehearsals! Note key moments when other instruments enter, or any signals suggesting tempo changes, etc. This will help you find your way if you ever get lost—which happens!
