There are costume designers, and then there is @marcirodgers_ The woman tasked with one of the most daunting challenges in recent Hollywood history — recreating the wardrobe of the most iconic entertainer who ever lived — approached the Michael biopic as an act of reverence. Rodgers, whose career spans projects like Till, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and She's Gotta Have It, brought her full artistry to director Antoine Fuqua's portrait of the King of Pop, and the results are nothing short of extraordinary.Rather than borrowing from Jackson's actual archive, every single item on set was a recreation — from his performance looks down to what his family members wore.Rodgers personally recreated all of his performance looks herself, from head to toe, aiming for what she called 95% accuracy. That remaining five percent? A matter of time, not effort.Her meticulous attention to detail meant that each piece was used to reflect character evolution. Michael's gradual embrace of military jackets and aviators, for instance, was designed to mirror the moment he finally stepped out of his father's shadow and into his own solo era.Rodgers approached the project with a "careful and respectful" mindset, ultimately making and stitching every piece herself — a personal touch that elevated the film's storytelling in ways that a purely logistical approach never could have.
