Happy St.Patrick's day! ... and mission accomplished for that sugar- free chocolate Guinness cake with Irish cream buttercream frosting! It wasn't pretty, but definitely tasty!

I've never made a sugar- free version of this cake before but also never made a layer cake before. This attempt was comical and lopsided, but at least it was yummy and my family enjoyed it.

【I thought the cake part was good, moist, and fluffy, but the frosting was too sweet for me. I added 3c sifted confectioners sugar-free sweetener to 3/4 c unsalted room temperature Irish butter and 4 tablespoons sugar- free Irish Cream flavoring... apart from using less sweetener, maybe I'll just make a chocolate ganache next time using sugar-free chocolate for the frosting】 by @beccalvm

This was ash last night that collected on my car in about 45 minutes when I went to Costco in Marina Del Rey. I'm lucky that work is supplying us to wear N-95s to wear home, so I had one on - even in the brief moments I was outside to pump gas, i saw this stuff flying around and collecting in people's hair.

We're not close enough to the fires to worry about evacuating but air quality has been bad enough that they canceled school in Culver CityThursday and Friday due to unhealthy air.

If you're local, I suggest wearing a mask outdoors or checking air quality conditions before heading out. A site I've used is one by the SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District): https://www.aqmd.gov/home/air-quality/current-air-quality-data#

Etta was one of my favorite restaurants, but it closed late last year. Luckily, it was replaced earlier this year by Prima Donna, @whataprimadonna. It's quickly becoming one of my faves!

My little family went on a weekend brunch back in January. We really enjoyed the food and appreciated the friendly, prompt service.
I ordered the chef's sandwich - "portafoglio", mortadella, fried egg, robiola, arugula, pickled red onion.
My husband got the green market frittata w/ artichoke, asparagus, spinach, parmesan, and toast.
My daughter ordered the impressive lemon ricotta pancakes off the brunch menu-though they had a kids menu, too! They also offered her crayons.
Prima Donna has a nice selection of cocktails and specialty mocktails. The mocktail I ordered was Wake Up Call ("amaretto", espresso, spiced pear, and cocoa). We were surprised with how empty it was in January...

Fast forward to this past weekend. We returned with my parents for Prima Donna's Easter Buffet Brunch. My entire family loved it. $65/ adults and $35/ kids included a buffet with a choice of entree, live music, and an indoor Easter egg hunt. For entrees, my family ordered lamb, prime rib, branzino, ribs, and a kid's cheese pizza. Our favorite foods from the buffet were the chilled octopus salad, yogurt parfaits with fruit and honey, and the pistachio maritozzis. My daughter collected eggs throughout the restaurant filled - not just with candies - but mini squishies. If offered next year, we would totally do it again!

Haven't yet been to Prima Donna for dinner, but I would totally return for date night or girls' night out. Prima Donna has great atmosphere, service, and food - I highly recommend checking it out!

We enjoyed the Parent & Child cooking class: Pasta Party today! We made fresh pasta, marinera sauce, and panna cotta. We also had some yummy tea & coffee with salted chocolate chip cookies during break time. As a bonus, we also got to try a lovely creamy sauce made with lemon zest and brown butter sage as some of its ingredients. Thank you @gourmandisela

We had a bunch of leftovers and took lots home. I would've taken more pics and videos but my hands were busy cooking or had food and flour on it. If I were smarter, I should have used the flip feature of my phone to use as a stand so I could record hands-free... maybe next time! Classes are discounted 10% for attendees for up to 2 days, so I'll need to look into the next Parent and Child class.

Bonus memory for me today was my daughter announcing to the whole class she didn't know by name... that it was too long. Wha??? Ummm she knows my name, but apparently makes stuff up when she doesn't feel like sharing or gets shy all of a sudden... every other child in that class shared their parent's names - even a 4 yr old!!! I think apart from cooking lessons, I guess I need to work on making sure my child doesn't get so nervous talking to a classroom of strangers... taken in The Gourmandise School by @beccalvm

Tried UOICHIBA inside Citizen Public Market today. Really nice quality handrolls for dine-at-the-counter service. Parked for free for less than an hour in the nearby lot. Service was prompt and food was fresh. They also offer bento boxes to-go! by @beccalvm

Enjoyed a lunch date sans kiddo at a new Culver City restaurant, Juliet, at Platform, @platform_la, @juliet.restaurant. Between us, we had: English Pea toast, chicken sandwich, Grains salad, Salad Classique, and a super thick hot chocolate in an espresso cup (love it when it's like this)! We liked the food and atmosphere and would like to return but think it'd be easier without wrangling our daughter...until then...Anyone know of other westside cafes or restaurants serving this same kind of rich, decadent hot chocolate? taken in JULIET by @beccalvm
