Wherever you go, there you are.

Proud to say I am officially an alumni of the University of South Florida College of Behavioral and Community Sciences!

Unlike most, college was not the best 4 years of my life. In fact, it was probably the hardest 4 years I've ever had consecutively. But through it all, my village held me up, stood ten toes behind me, and believed in me especially when I didn't believe in myself. None of this would have been possible without the love and support of my family, my friends, my therapist(s), and of course my four-legged son who I adopted midway through freshman year.

To answer the big burning question: I have no idea what's next! The world is big and scary and also awesome and beautiful and I'm ecstatic to begin exploring it all in this new chapter.

I will forever bleed green & gold. Go Bulls🐂🤘 taken in University of South Florida by @becfineberg

Been trying to find the right words to describe my experience with @usfdancedeo these past few years. Coming to college I had no idea whether or not I'd be able to keep dancing, keep performing, or if I even wanted to. I always felt like a kind of outsider in the dance department because I wasn't majoring in dance, but every single person I met through my time involved with USF dance made me feel the exact opposite. They welcomed me with open arms and open hearts, and allowed me space to keep doing what I love. It has been a true pleasure to learn from, dance alongside, and share space with some of the coolest humans and artists I've ever met. You all are the heartbeat of USF dance, and I am so honored to have experienced even a fraction of it. Special shoutout to @autytheartist who took a wild chance on me sophomore year...look at us now! To my rainbow people and the collective, sharing the stage with you all was the absolute best way to end my time here at @usouthflorida (and on international dance day too!) 🌈

I think about this kid a lot, especially on days like today.
I think about the ways in which she was made to feel like she didn't belong in this world, that something was wrong with her simply because she was different from her female peers. She was louder, more "aggressive", more "opinionated". I think about all the times growing up when she just wanted to do the same things her older brother was doing, when she wanted to be picked out of the class to help the teacher lift something heavy, instead of one of the boys. I think about the first time she really realized she was different, that she was gay. And the fear she felt that yet another thing was going to separate her from her peers. I think about the first time she put on her brother's collared shirt and looked at herself in the mirror, only slightly recognizing the reflection looking back. I think about all the different ways in which she began exploring how to express herself after coming out as a lesbian, because she felt comfortable enough to do so. I think about her first woman-loving-woman relationship, and how it was the catalyst to figuring out who exactly she really was. I think about how scared she was to have to come out yet again, this time as trans, knowing it was much different than coming out as gay. I think about all of these things and I think about her and I smile. I smile because all of these things that may have seemed like the end of the world at one point, have brought her to exactly where I am today: the man behind the screen writing about his younger self, this time with the upmost gratitude for who she was and all that she experienced. I would not be me without her, and while it's not always easy, I am so fucking happy to be me.

The past 20 years of my life have been shaped and defined by the art form of dance. Every plan made, every vacation scheduled, all revolved around dance. Countless instances of "I can't, I have dance." Millions of friendships and bonds formed over a shared love of dance. And then I graduated high school, and my time as a competitive dancer ended. All of those hours spent at the studio, at competitions, traveling around the country, became hours I didn't know what to do with. I always knew I didn't want to pursue dance professionally, but after becoming too old to continue living out my competition kid dreams, I also knew that I could never fully walk away from dance, and that it would always have a place in my life as long as I allowed it to. That's when I found @usfstudentdance. The true answer to my prayers. It became clear to me that this was something I needed to participate in, either as a dancer or a choreographer. And as luck would have it, I got to experience both. Fast forward 4 years later, I performed my final solo on the USF stage. This piece is called "Memories," as it is an homage to my dance career, the memories I made as a dancer, and all that I will carry with me through the rest of my life. I would like to say many thank you's to my mom, Ricardo, Janet, and every single person I had the pleasure of meeting through dance. For without you all, there would be no me.
