Swimming Courses 2026 Completed!

Our 6th edition of free swimming courses on Boa Vista, Cabo Verde, successfully came to an end in September! The children improved their swimming skills, built confidence in the water and learned more about the importance of protecting our oceans.

Since 2021, our locally trained swimming instructors have helped hundreds of children learn to swim safely. With different skill levels and environmental education activities, the programme not only teaches essential swimming techniques but also helps children develop a closer connection to the ocean and its marine life.

The courses ended with a celebration bringing together 80 children, their families and instructors to recognise their achievements.

A big thank you to all the children, families, instructors and everyone involved in making this year's courses a success!

Es ist wieder einmal Dienstag und das heißt: Turtle Tuesday! 🐢

Von 1.000 frisch geschlüpften Meeresschildkröten schafft es Schätzungen zufolge nur etwa eine bis ins Erwachsenenalter. Ganz schön wenig, oder?

Denn schon ab dem Moment, in dem die Kleinen aus ihren Eiern schlüpfen, beginnt ein ziemlich gefährlicher Weg. Und auch wenn sie es sicher ins Meer geschafft haben, warten dort noch viele weitere Herausforderungen auf sie.

Einige davon sind natürlich, andere wiederum menschengemacht. Und genau hier können wir einen Unterschied machen!

Denn je besser wir Niststrände und Lebensräume schützen und vermeidbare Gefahren reduzieren, desto bessere Chancen hat die nächste Generation Meeresschildkröten. 💚 by @bechtoldstiftung

Islands for Tomorrow: Clean, Conserve, Connect

Following World Cleanup Day 2026, we continued our conservation journey with a Post-World Cleanup Day Island Conservation Event hosted in collaboration with Marine Parks and Reserves Unit (MPRU) @marineparks_and_reserves_tz and @dar_es_salaam_marine_reserves as part of our yearly cleanup program, “Islands for Tomorrow: Clean, Conserve, Connect”.

The day brought together young people, conservation partners and ocean lovers for a day of action and learning at the island. From a beach cleanup to an Eco Tour, beach sports and fun activities, the event created space to connect with nature.

A glimpse of World Cleanup Day 2026!

A day of action, learning, connection and celebration at Silver Sands Beach as young people, students, communities, environmental champions, partners and volunteers.

From shoreline cleanup and waste collection to sports, exhibitions, student projects and community dialogue, the day created a space for people to learn, participate and celebrate the role of young people in protecting our ocean and coastal environment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to making World Cleanup Day 2026 a meaningful moment for our coast, our communities and the next generation of ocean conservation champions.

Participants brought their energy to the field through Beach Soccer, Tug of War and Volleyball, creating moments filled with teamwork, laughter, friendly competition and plenty of excitement.

Beyond the games, the sports activities created a great space for students, young people, partners, volunteers and environmental champions to interact, network and build new connections around a shared passion for people, communities and the ocean.

We are grateful to everyone who showed up, participated, supported, and contributed to making our World Cleanup Day 2026 – Silver Sands Beach celebration a meaningful day of action, learning, and connection.

Together, we brought 279 participants to the shoreline, including 130 students from Kondo and Mtakuja Secondary Schools. Through collective action, we collected 285+ bags of waste, weighing 2,037.75 kg, turning a morning of cleanup into a powerful reminder of what is possible when communities come together for our ocean and coastal environment.

The day continued beyond the cleanup with student exhibitions, sports, and games, creating space for young people to showcase what they have learned, share their ideas, have fun, and connect with fellow ocean conservation champions.

A heartfelt thank you to our students, teachers, volunteers, community members, team leaders, partners, exhibitors, sports teams, and everyone who joined us at Silver Sands Beach.

Today, young people, students, communities, environmental champions and partners came together to kick off Pre-World Cleanup Day 2026 under the theme:

“Youth Greening the Blue: Empowering the Next Generation of Ocean Conservation Champions Beyond the Classroom.”

From the beach to the conversations that followed, the day was about action, learning, creativity and giving young people a stronger voice in protecting our ocean.

This highlight video captures the energy as we began our journey toward World Cleanup Day 2026, one beach, one community, one action at a time.

Curiosity kept the room engaged. Students asked questions, shared what they were wondering about, and connected the #data with what they see around their own communities. Each question brought a new perspective and helped turn learning into ideas for action.
