POSTS STORIES REELS

Baby’s first big public art commission! Collectively titled ‘Harvest’, 18 months in the making, this set of steel sculpture lie inbetween the magical towns of Oxley and Milawa, in the heart of the King Valley. They are a dedication to the incredible produce of the area, with a First Nations bush food (Rough Barked Honey Myrtle) at the heart of them all.

These steel sculptures (16 in total!!) sit along the most gourmet part of the Murray to Mountains bike trail. They were commissioned by @tourism_north_east & @wangaratta_council curated by @dae_global & installed, engineered & made by @uapcompany. There was so much delicious food to chose from, but the final forms were decided after much chats with locals, @milawagourmet and a fun workshop with all the students from Oxley Primary.

I’ll go into more detail about each form over the coming weeks / months, but if you are lucky enough the be in the area see if you can find them all - start at Stan Allen reserve, break for pizza @henleyswinebar and finish off with some treats at @milawacheese @milawabread. Obviously they are designed to best be viewed on bike (path is very family friendly!!), but path is walkable and they can be spotted while driving too.

There are approximately one million people to thank but top of my list is @belvanweel from DAE who was everything from chauffeur to advocate to mediator to pub buddy. Also Mike, Bess, Charlie, Simone, Isaac & Alicia : all legends! All of you! by @beciorpin

A year in the making, ‘Bunny Dearest’ will be ready to meet you @immigrationmuseum_melb from Friday 1st March! ‘Bunny Dearest’ is part of ’JOY’ exhibition & my largest creation to date! An ode to my childhood & the small & big joys in life.

This installation was a huge logistical challenge, needed to meet many institution standards & is built for longevity. I owe so much to Abbas & the wonderful staff at GAAS, who devised a way to make this huge bunny fit through regular size doorways on the third floor of a heritage building. There is no way Bunny Dearest would exist without them.

Also huge thanks to all the (very patient) museum staff, @vincent.fabrications for curtains @alphalewissigns for the stickers. Custom carpet is from @godfreyhirst & beautiful paint from @taubmans.

There are six other artists who made very amazing and joyous work for this exhibition, I can’t encourage you more to visit! Tickets available via @immigrationmuseum_melb website (for both opening night tomorrow & the remainder of the show). by @beciorpin

Hello from the other side of summer! I've been away for the last several weeks– hence the silence on here. Back now, slightly jet-lagged, and very much looking forward to Friday.

As some of you know, The Long Run moved from July to August due to some unforeseen circumstances– but August (back to school, anyone?) feels like exactly the right moment for this conversation.

If you haven't registered yet, there's still time– and there's always room 😊 Friday, 21 August, 10:30 AM CEST. The link is in the bio.

I'm excited for you all to meet and chat with @beciorpin . Beci Orpin is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Melbourne. Her work moves between illustration, art direction, textile design and craft. With this broad practice being united by a signature application of colour, shape and optimism.

Since completing a B.A.Textile Design in 1997 and launching her studio, Beci has established herself as a leading figure in the Australian creative community. She has collaborated with major brands including Apple, Google, Disney, Uniqlo and Urban Outfitters. While her work with national organisations such as The Australian Ballet, Melbourne International Film Festival and Sportsgirl has seen her joyful style become a beloved cornerstone of Melbourne's evolving aesthetic identity.

Alongside her extensive commercial experience, Beci’s personal art practice has led her to exhibit work around the globe, with solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and New York. As well as enjoy significant acclaim as the author and illustrator of 10 internationally published books for children and adults.

Across her 25 year career, these expansive efforts have been linked by her enduring commitment to art as a vehicle to form community. A longstanding mentor figure within the Melbourne creative scene, she has lectured and led workshops at various local and national institutions, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Craft Victoria, Semi-Permanent Conference, Melbourne Design Week and Royal Childrens Hospital among many others. Beci has also worked on various community-based public art projects, funded by both government and private enterprise.

@beciorpin brings colour and joy to everything she touches.

We visited the Melbourne-based designer, illustrator and maker at her Brunswick studio to talk creative practice, what she wants to cultivate in the space around her and how important the Everyday Sofa is in the studio to support her creative process. by @beciorpin
