On Saturday evening @theotherartfair , I turned around and caught a glimpse of this candy-colored sunset through the hangar doors. It's been a blast to bring (sequin) bling to Los Angeles. I've seen so much great art, I've met so many art lovers, and I've even met an actor who was in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie! I can't ask for more. Well, here's hoping I can find homes for a few more pieces before heading back home. 😉 by @beckbaumann

Welcome to booth 110 at The Other Art Fair in Santa Monica. I arrived at 9 am this morning (Thursday) for setup, and finished by 12:15 pm. Not too bad. I think perhaps I've over-hung it with too many pieces, but darned if I can figure out what to remove, so it'll stay as is. It's an 8' back wall, with 4' side walls, and because I'm on the end of an aisle, I get half of the end cap too, woohoo! I am quickly adapting back into the Mad Max driving style that Angelinos use so effortlessly. I will not complain about Reno congestion for a good long while. by @beckbaumann

I'm about to hit the road for my first art fair in California @otherartfair in Santa Monica. I'm feeling nostalgic because I moved to LA after college, and I had so many 'firsts' there - first real job, first house, first kid, first fish tacos. We lived there for about five years before we moved back to Reno, and hubby and I have fond memories of the ocean, the weather, and basically everything but the traffic.

I'm bringing a nice mix art, everything from sequined guitars and balloons, to tv's and jean jackets. If you're in the SoCal area, don't miss this event. I've heard from everybody that it's a truly great show. by @beckbaumann

I've had the lovely honor to be featured by the ARTEFFECTS program on PBS, and it will air this Sunday on KNPB at 6:30 pm. I also have it linked on my homepage if you'd like to see the full episode. It's short and sweet, at 7 minutes long, but it tells the story about how and why I make sequin art.

This coming Saturday morning 9/19, I'll be joining a panel discussion at RTIA about the ARTEFFECTS program. Attendance is free with a ticket, and it will begin at 11 am.

About six months ago I sketched this booth idea into my comp book, three jean jackets in white, blue, and black, and colorful "balloon" sculptures hanging in between. I get so much satisfaction turning that idea into reality, and now I get to see people's reactions to the work over the next four days.

If you're in the Reno area, come visit the Reno Tahoe International Arts Show this weekend, it's such a fun way to spend a day.

Spent the past week finishing up the last pieces in the 'balloon series.' I've been having so much fun with these, and my sketchbook is filled with things I'd like to see as a sequin balloon sculpture. Yesterday was about taking and editing the photos, and this weekend is about putting them onto my website. It takes a surprising amount of time, and I write my own product copy, of course, and dragging my writing brain to the forefront is chancy. Some days the words just flow, and sometimes there's a clog in the pipe.

These pieces, and a lot of the new stuff I've been showing this summer (jean jackets included) are going on display @rtiashow on Thursday, September 17th. If you're not in Reno, no worries, because it's also going to be available on my website on the 17th at noon PST. Anything bought online will ship the following Monday, 9/21.

My daughter visited the studio yesterday, plopped down into a chair, chatted for a while, and she did not even notice the Raisinets and Junior Mints pieces until she stood up to leave. She was like, I think I've been desensitized, because I don't know how I didn't see these giant candy boxes before. It's my fault, sequins are totally normal around here.

So, if anyone lives in the LA area, and has a home movie theater they'd like to decorate, come see these in-person in Santa Monica @theotherartfair September 24-27. I will be there, with lots of cool pieces, and I really hope that other folks aren't sequin-blind like my daughter. Honestly, these are kind of hard to miss.

Now is the time to buy tickets and plan your visit to the @rtiashow. It'll be here in two weeks, September 17th-20th! This is one of the coolest annual events here in Reno, there's tons of amazing art, performances, and it's family-friendly too. Bring the kids! It's located in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center next to the Atlantis. I will have a whole new collection on display, so come find me.

Last summer I made a collection of suitcase pieces, and this one is named "Margaritaville," for a trip to Mexico my husband and I took many years ago. I always travel with a straw hat, and the hat band has beads from a piece of vintage costume jewelry. The colors evoke the warmth I felt in Mexico, and the style of the suitcase is from the 70s. This one is available on my website, $525 (that actually surprised me, because it's such a cool one, don't know what I was thinking 🤔). Whenever it's on display, it always fools a couple of people into thinking that it's a real suitcase, but I just show them the back and they believe me.

New work, "Number 2 Pencil Balloon." Yellow pencils make me think about going back-to-school, and how I wish I could do it all over again. It's a rare rainy day here in Reno, and the studio smells like petrichor. I hope I can sell this one in-person next month at @rtiashow or @theotherartfair, because it'll need a five foot long box to ship it, and that's not something I'm willing to contemplate right now. I don't get to go back-to-school, but I do need to go back-to-work 😅 by @beckbaumann
