okay, so no one talks about these things when they’re chronically ill, let’s talk about it

the first few pics are me before my chronic illness took more control of my life, with the last 3 just being a glimpse into my reality

1. no one talks about how you grieve the life you planned for yourself and the person you once were/thought you would be
2. okay, i might not be in much pain today, but my heart rate was over 150 for points of the day while resting, my entire body is weak, dizziness, nausea, organs that don’t do their job properly
3. the imposter syndrome, fear of not being ‘bad’ enough, or it being held against you when you have a good day, because chronically ill people don’t get a good day, right?(mostly)
4. the expectation of well you did this before so why can’t you this time? because no one told you that i had to spend days quietly recovering from whatever that was
5. choosing between what tasks you can manage, including just your basics like feeding yourself, hygiene, house work, etc
6. being scared to make plans, because you never know how you’re going to feel on the day. people don’t care if your ill, but they care if you cancel plans
7. how long it takes to get diagnosed, for most (myself included), the process takes years and years of dismissal, trying different things, rejected referrals, and lots of self advocation

there’s more things i’ve probably missed, but please be kind, you never know what people are going through behind the scenes. invisible illness is real and we just want to be seen and heard. to anyone who’s fighting the battle of getting a diagnosis or more support, don’t give up!🫶🏻 #chronicillness #chronicallyill #hiddendisability #hedsawareness #disabilityawareness by @beckyd140

actually managed to bring myself out into nature although i could barely walk after 😁 i’ve also been writing a poem so here she is, it’s been a long time since i wrote, not traditional but a poem nonetheless

if you want me to be the black sheep, then she i will be.
i’m not afraid to stand up for myself or what i believe in.
i won’t feel a certain way because that’s what you want

it takes strength to rise above; to see beauty in life, to find love in what you do, the people you meet, the earth we walk on

what matters to you might not matter to me, and that’s okay
for i am the black sheep, i am here for me, not for you.
i chose my own values and you should too.

the black sheep is strong, because the black sheep learns to stand alone

i might be the black sheep, but at least i dont have a black heart by @beckyd140
