I used to bend like soft grass in every wind,
smiling until my cheeks forgot their own shape,
saying yes before my heart had time to speak,
collecting people the way empty rooms collect echoes.

I mistook noise for friendship,
crowds for connection,
and applause for love.

But time—gentle and relentless—
taught me the quiet language of truth.

Now I know the difference
between those who sit at your table
and those who only come
to see what’s being served.

I no longer shrink to fit every space.
I no longer carry the weight of everyone’s comfort
while abandoning my own.

I still care—
oh, I care deeply—
but my kindness has boundaries now,
and my peace has a door that not everyone may enter.

I want to be a firework in the night sky,
not the kind that burns the earth,
but the kind that rises high—
bright, breathtaking,
reminding the darkness that light exists.

I pray for people who will never know my prayers.
I wish goodness on those who walked away.
My heart has learned
that grace is stronger than bitterness.

And as I walk this path,
I hold small hands in mine.

My daughters.

I teach them that kindness is not weakness,
that strength can wear a gentle voice,
that bravery sometimes looks like saying no,
and love should never cost them themselves.

I am raising women
who will stand tall without apology,
who will be fearless without cruelty,
independent without loneliness,
and soft without surrender.

Women who shine—
not to outshine others,
but to light the sky
so someone else can find their way home.

And I smile now,
not because everyone is pleased—

but because I am finally
at peace with the woman

The gift Mariah never knew she needed ! I accidentally gifted Mariah the office laminator yesterday!
