A little pre install inspection on another set of 2026 160mm Fox 36 forks.

Definitely not a requirement, I just get simple piece of mind knowing I've inspected the factory assembly and everything is good on the inside.

These are by far my favourite forks ever!

The sensitivity and the way this fork moves in all circumstances is so damn impressive.

Reminds me of back in the late 90s going from a grease lubricated fork to an oil bath Marzocchi Z1 bomber.

The new glidecore air shaft assembly allows the piston head to move and self align within the stanchion on the air shaft and it also allows the air shaft to move within the negative air seal assembly, which means the friction within the air spring is greatly and noticeably reduced even under high loads when fork stanchions flex a little.

The increase in sensitivity on this fork was very noticeable on the very first ride, and had me pushing for more speed straight away due to the immediate gain in confidence from the increased grip and comfort.

Big fan @ridefox_au @ridefoxbike 👌🙌

I only just upgraded the Enduro with a set of @ridefox_au Podium forks, a new Fox DHX2 and some new @raceface components in the Kashmoney colourway. 😍👌

But something new and very exciting came my way which made me strip it down for parts in a heartbeat.

The new bike is built, I've done a couple of rides on it. I'm still in the middle of dialling it in. But I'm so damn happy with it so far!

Was pretty keen to get these new lowers on the P4.

This is a custom fork I built for myself and couldn't be happier with it.

It's a 29er Fox 36 fork in 44mm offset, and I got a 100mm air shaft from a Marzocchi Z1 DJ and swapped the piston head over to make it 100mm travel.

I'm running a Fox gripX damper with the low and high speed compression closed for an extra firm setting and 12 volume spacers (maximum in the 2025 170mm stanchion with the 100mm air shaft) and 130psi. I also run the rebound closed due to the high air pressure, but the fork is so supportive and efficient for this use.

It's also now gained further stiffness from the increased bushing overlap in the new lowers, but I mainly just wanted them for the new arch aesthetics. 😊👌

Things to note:

Travel will be limited to 160mm with the 2026 lowers due to the lower bushings being lower.

The brake mount is now 200mm on these lowers. by @bee_kay77

Was literally about to just put AXs on my DJ, as I have them on everything else, then this new updated version of the LHT became available.

Main differences are:

New one piece monobloc caliper for extra stiffness and power transfer, and no chance of leaky caliper halves. The new caliper also has the option of 2 different banjo mounting positions.

New 2 piece lever blade with 2 reach adjusters. 1 adjuster alters the actuation and the other reach adjuster doesn't. So you have the option of changing the reach only or changing the actuation (bite point feel/power curve) and then being able to counter adjust the reach.

These brakes still have the contact adjuster and the cammed leverage adjustment at the lever pivot, so you can do some cool things like have the rear brake set up with slightly less leverage to achieve the same bite point feel as your front brake.

These brakes still have all the nice features such as being full CNC machined, stainless steel fittings, Titanium hardware, reusable banjo and lever fittings (no olives or barbs needed) removable separate cooling fins, top loading pads with open caliper design for easy piston veiw/access for adjusting and cleaning, sealed bearing blade and push rod pivots.

Spoiler alert:
I've already swapped out my masters for AX, for the larger pistons
to reduce the hydrolic leverage to shorten free stroke and make bite point even firmer. Still plenty of power from the 4 x 17mm caliper pistons and relatively large rotors for a DJ (200/180)
The larger AX master piston pushes more fluid, so pad retraction is also ridiculously good. I also swapped out the blades to try the new 2 piece design and already put over 55 pumptrack kilometres on them.

Brakes are the damn dream and I'm claiming this set up as the BK model. 😊👌

I previously ran the S4 calipers (2x14, 2x17) pistons with AX levers, so an even lower hydrolic leverage rate, but still good for this application where I prioritise feel as the power isn't really needed. by @bee_kay77

As far as wheels go, durability is my main preference. I've been hand building 32h J- bend Raceface Vault hubs into the alloy Raceface ARC30 offset rims for the last few years with good results, despite recently opting to run 13g spokes in the rear of my Amflow to help deal with the high torque and reducing spoke failure being an issue.

I've also for a long time opted for alloy rims, mainly for the low cost of replacement, even though I very rarely have any issues with them.

The main reason I'm giving this wheelset a go is the piece of mind of them having a lifetime warranty, including crashes, which eliminates the cost of rim replacement if ever needed which is absolutely insane!

I'm very interested in comparing the ride characteristics of these to my alloy 32h wheels and see if there's performance gains to be had.
There are also some very well priced Raceface alloy wheels which include their lifetime warranty, check them out on the Raceface website!

The decals can be removed if you find them a bit too lairy.

Tip regarding carbon rims:
It's always nice to have your tyre pressures dialled in before using carbon rims, as you don't have the resolution you have with alloy rims with seeing any dings telling you you don't have enough tyre pressure. by @bee_kay77

A headset compression ring has 2 jobs, to preload the headset bearings into the frame and to clamp the fork steerer tube securely.

It is also a very high load area.

Unfortunately alot of the time, the compression ring bottoms out on the bearing before clamping the fork steerer securely.

Ever wondered why you get that "ring of death" wear mark on your fork steerer despite your headset never being loose?

That is from the a small amount of movement between the fork steerer and the compression ring, even though you've "over torqued" the headset preload slightly to try and avoid the irreversible damage that can occur to your often expensive fork. The problem is, once the fork steerer/compression ring becomes worn, the movement and wear becomes greater..

I'm pretty particular in which headsets/compression rings I run (sometimes even mixing headset brands) to prevent this wear, but mainly to eliminate the small amount of movement I can feel through the front of my bike.

I had a real solid set up on the Amflow PLs with their 1.5" upper headset bearing, where I replaced the stock 3mm deep compression ring (which concentrated the wear) with  Specialized Tarmac SL7, 2 piece compression ring (designed for carbon steerers) which was 8.5mm deep. It spread the load on the steerer over a larger area, reducing wear, but was also a real nice tight fit that you had to press in. 😊👌

Unfortunately, the new PXs now have a 1 1/8" upper bearing (usually this is better due to the smaller compression ring having less material than the 1.5" versions so they are able to compress easier)

Unfortunately .the bearing cover on a Chris King headset I had, fouls on the headset cup, as they also have a 2 piece compression ring that does a real good job of clamping the steerer.

An aluminium can (0.1mm shim) looks and sounds dodgy, but works really well at increasing the clamping on the fork steerer and also softening the often sharp edges of the compression ring against your steerer.

The bearing cover was a tight fit, but all I had to do was remove the O ring and chamfer the top end corners of the can. by @bee_kay77

I absolutely love the process of getting a new bike, puzzling, experimenting and bracketing to get the most confidence and speed out of it as possible.

The new Amflow PX has 5 different head angle positions, a 2 position flip chip at the swing link and 4 different chainstay positions. Add in the game changing Fox Float X2 Live valve Neo shock, and all the parameters you can adjust on that and you have a puzzlers dream! 😃👌

I wanted this bike to feel as close to my Sunn Radical as possible despite having very different kinematics. I started the process with a similar Podium fork set up and have tried to match the rear to the fork (backwards to my usual process)

I initially started rear shock sag at 28%, then required  this volume spacer to even out the balance and travel used. I've already removed this volume spacer in favour of increasing shock pressure by 20psi to achieve a 25% sag (same as my Sunn) and already need to add the volume spacer back to even out balance/travel used.

Once I get the suspension dialled in, I'll see how my body position and dynamic geometry feel, then I may feel I want to adjust the frame geometry and then have to go back and further dial in the suspension to suit the geometry adjustments.

Heads up in what the frame geometry adjustments don't tell you:

HA adjustment also changes front center length, stack and BB height.

Swing link flip chip also changes HA, BB height and leverage/progression of shock.

Chain stay adjustment also changes BB height, HA, leverage on shock and travel to a small degree.

You'll also have to re adjust your derailleur B gap with any chainstay or shock flip chip changes.

Big kudos to Amflow for having all these adjustments and being either full 29 or MX compatible! by @bee_kay77

Frame all checked and prepped.

Pivot bolt shaft to Pivot bearing interfaces greased and Pivot bolt threads loctited.

Shims installed where possible to releave excess bearing preload to increase sensitivity and reduce bearing wear.

Fox Float X2 Neo installed. Absolute game changer and won't run anything else after riding one

Overall very impressed with the quality and refinements with the new PX.

Spoiler: I wanted to film the whole build process, but I got impatient with the filming and just wanted to get it built. I've ridden it a bunch of times this week and am in the thick of getting the geo and suspension dialled in. Absolutely amazing so far, with more confidence to be achieved after some more riding and further testing. Wait till I get some shots of it!
