My summer potting table is looking a little different this year… 🌸

Last year, I filled it with petunias, and although they looked beautiful, I quickly realised how much time I spent deadheading just to keep them looking their best.

This year, I’ve gone for a more relaxed approach. I’ve still planted a couple of petunias because I love them, but I’ve chosen flowers that need less maintenance and can pretty much get on with it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love gardening, but I also want to spend more time enjoying my garden than constantly working in it. Sometimes the best gardening decision is choosing plants that suit the time you have.

I’m calling it my low-maintenance summer… and I’m fully embracing it! 🌿

Are you happy to spend time deadheading, or do you prefer easy-care plants like me?

One plant that never seems to struggle in my hot, south-facing garden? Hardy geraniums 🌸

They flower for ages, cope well with the heat, and look just as good in pots as they do in borders.

Definitely one of my most reliable plants.

Do you grow hardy geraniums?

If I’m honest, I always notice the jobs that still need doing… 🌿

The recent heat has meant more watering than gardening, there are still gaps to fill, and some flowers are already starting to fade.

But then I stopped, looked around, and realised just how much is blooming right now. 🌸

Gardening is always a work in progress, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What’s looking its best in your garden at the moment? 💚👇

🌿 This Week at Beechcroft | Episode 12

Another week, another handful of little jobs getting done around the garden! 🍂

As we move further into autumn, there’s still plenty to keep me busy at Beechcroft. This week I’m tackling a few more seasonal jobs, clearing things away, giving areas a little tidy and getting some bulbs planted ready for a little burst of colour in the months ahead.

I’m also making time for those smaller jobs that are so easy to put off but make such a difference when they’re done.

I love this time of year in the garden. It’s a chance to clear away what’s finished, make a little room for what’s next and start thinking ahead to the seasons to come.

Of course, not everything gets done in one go, and that’s perfectly fine. Gardening is all about taking things one step at a time, learning as I grow and enjoying the process along the way. 🌱

There’s always something to do at Beechcroft, even as the garden starts to slow down for winter.

What autumn jobs are you getting stuck into in your garden this week? I’d love to hear what everyone’s been up to!

Thanks for spending a little time with me at Beechcroft. 🍂🤎

Autumn doesn’t mean the garden has to lose all its colour. 🍂🌿

From bright flowers to colourful foliage and those little hints of winter colour, there’s still plenty to enjoy at Beechcroft.

Sometimes it’s nice to stop, take a closer look and appreciate what’s still growing.

🍂 You don’t need flowers to create a beautiful autumn pot! 🌿

I’ve been enjoying the foliage on my potting table at Beechcroft, and it’s amazing how much colour and interest you can get just from leaves.

Fresh greens, deep burgundy Heucheras, delicate ferns and trailing plants all bring something different to the mix.

Add a few pumpkins and some autumn leaves, and you’ve got a display that feels just right for this time of year. 🎃🤎

I’m learning all the time that it’s not always about the flowers. Sometimes it’s the foliage that makes the whole thing work!

🌿 Tell me, which do you prefer in autumn pots — fresh green foliage or rich burgundy leaves?

I’d love to know!

Episode 11🌿 This Week at Beechcroft

A little planting project this week! Getting the compost sorted, trying out different plant combinations and getting everything planted up. It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s starting to come together. 🌱

Plants used:
🌿 Cornus
🌿 Ornamental grasses
🌿 Brunnera
🌿 Muehlenbeckia

More to come as the garden grows!

Thank you for watching, and happy gardening! 🤎

🌿 Has your shrub outgrown its pot?

Before reaching for a bigger pot, check the roots!

Roots circling the rootball, compost drying out quickly and restricted growth can all be signs that your shrub may need more room.

I’ve refreshed the compost, added a little fish, blood and bone, and settled mine into its new pot.

🍂 A little reminder: autumn isn’t automatically the right time to repot every shrub. Check the plant, its roots and the weather conditions before deciding.

Gardening is all about learning as we grow! 🌱

Save this for your next potting job.

🍂 This Week at Beechcroft | Episode 10 - The potting table gets an autumn glow-up!

A little clearing, a cup of tea and a chance to get creative. ☕️🍂

This time, I wanted to do something a little different, bringing together ferns, grasses, ivies and heucheras, with a few pumpkins and seasonal touches to finish it all off.

I’ve gone for a slightly simpler look this year, focusing on different textures, natural colours and using what I already have in the garden. Sometimes, less really is more! 🤎

I’m so pleased with how it’s come together, and it’s lovely to give this little corner of Beechcroft a new lease of life for autumn.

But what do you think? Are you team more is more or less is more when it comes to autumn decorating? 🍁👇

Crispy hydrangeas, little pops of colour and the spiders still doing their thing 🕷️🍂🌸

Autumn is definitely creeping into the garden, but there’s still plenty to enjoy. From the ornamental grasses catching the light to the last of the flowers putting on a show, the garden is changing but it’s certainly not finished yet. 🌿

Learning to appreciate every season, one garden moment at a time. 🤎

🍂 My garden in October 🌿

Even as autumn arrives, there’s still so much to enjoy in the garden.

I’m loving the ornamental grasses, the different shades of foliage and those little pockets of colour that are still hanging on. It’s a reminder that a garden doesn’t need to be full of flowers to be beautiful.

I’m always learning as I go, trying different plants and discovering what works best in my garden. And that’s what I love about gardening — there’s always something new to learn. 🤎

I’d love to know, what’s still looking good in your garden this October? 🌸
