Part 1: "I am someone who has always struggled with my self esteem. I used to believe that I needed to prove myself and rely on the words/opinions of others in order to feel validated. During my mid 20s, I was tired of pleasing the wrong group of people that had nothing in common with who I really am as a person. I was in a very low and dark place in my life at the end of 2019. I had just moved back home to Chicago around this time. I didn’t realize this before but when I think back on it now, I was depressed. I quit my old job, then got laid off from my new sales job in Chicago, and the pandemic hit us hard. I did nothing during that time I got laid off and we had to quarantine. I completely surrendered, I could confidently say that I stayed in the same spot for 3 days and did not move, that’s how I knew. That was also my wake up call, “What am I doing to myself?” I had lost my motivation to do anything. I soon found skateboarding around that same time and it changed my life completely.

I started skateboarding in March 2020. I wanted to challenge myself to accomplish a childhood dream that my parents didn't allow me to do because I was a girl. I have a younger brother, Rafy, and he was allowed to skateboard. Before I skated, I would live out my passion seeing my younger brother skateboard. He’s a really good skater. Seeing him skate inspired me to tap into that old dream of mine that felt so taboo to me for many years. I used to think 'I could never do this, this sucks,' every time I tried to skate my brother's board.

A few months later I found @froskate, where I met a community of skaters to skate with that represented and looked just like me. I made the effort to go to all of the skate meetups hosted by Froskate and found myself loving the sport even more.

After everything that happened with my career, I turned to skating because it was an outlet for me. I was doing something I finally wanted to do for myself without realizing it at first. One of my favorite memories was when I bought that first skateboard, I was super excited to practice and finally ride it.
