🦒 THE MAKING OF THE @toysrus COSTUME PT. 1 🎠

I'm not sure where to start or what to even say besides I would 10/10 stay up for 48 hours straight to make this for @rachelhalldoeshair again.

We began with a blank and pre-made canvas. It ended up being almost totally gutted, but it was a good jumping off point that we thought would save us some time (🤣). Since all bodies are different, and Rachel moves around a lot while working, I wanted this to be the most comfortable version of a shelf corset that I could possibly make. That meant making individual shelves and installing them as such.

I was absolutely giddy over the fact that my first engineering idea ended up working perfectly: shoving some craft wire into our "shelves", And using the tension from the body inside to hold the shelves in place. We really wanted the shelves to be able to move so that it could be level on any person once the corset goes on.

A corset with shelves was simply not enough, though. I did some googling and found a photo of the old Toys R Us local to us and made a replica to go on top. 😭 I can't.

The pants? Perfection. We went with the Bee Pants (EXTRA barrelled) and included a big patch that was made from Rachel's vintage tee. I hand stitched every letter because it's always the little details that we live for.

The finest details are in the toy collection — minis were sent to me by @sayyestothemess.art , and the 3D printed fan-favorites were made by Bestie @lmdcindy and I will think about those furbies and cozy coupe every day until I die.

It was a blast to be able to deliver this pride and joy in person and feel the magic of Jovi Spirit Week begin. 🥹

Happy Halloween from my favorite costume this spirit week.
Don’t worry, next week we will be back to hair transformations but until then, the Toys-R-Us DIY details are immaculate

All the Disney details 🏰 ✨ by @beelyskoart

Disney World girls 🤝 Disneyland girls. Consider me the ultimate Park Hopper. 🏰✨

When I decided I wanted to dress up as an entire Disney park for Surprise Day, I quickly realized there was absolutely no way I could pick a coast. And honestly, why should I? Six parks, two castles, and a completely unreasonable amount of commitment

Bee handcrafted the Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle corset entirely out of felt, then painstakingly detailed it with paint. She also hand-painted the Tower of Terror from Hollywood Studios, the Tree of Life from Animal Kingdom, Dumbo and the Mad Tea Party teacups (because we love an attraction that exists on both coasts), and Pixar Pal-A-Round from California Adventure!

And because one castle apparently wasn’t enough, the Cinderella Castle on my wig was handcrafted by inspired by Disney World’s 50th anniversary by @_hairwitch Unfortunately, shipping was a little rough, so Josh stayed up last night helping me repair and refine the blue using CutieHeads Aloura K-tips. Yes, the entire castle is made of HAIR. 😭

The beautiful beaded Disney character necklace was handmade by my friend @justclassicallycassidy as a gift, and Bee also made my little clay Disney earrings for a trip forever ago. 🥹 And FINALLY, an occasion worthy of my Mickey Mouse heels. Obviously, no park outfit is complete without a bedazzled Mickey Mouse popcorn bucket. Can’t wait to post all the detail shots later 🥹

Anyway, I fear this is no longer a costume. This is just how I dress now. 🐭✨ by @beelyskoart

A quick update!

If you haven’t heard, I’m moving!
Things happened very quickly & this very well could have been my last full week in Virginia.
I should know tomorrow how much longer we have here but I will certainly be gone next Saturday.

Our friend deserves the best and I haven’t been able to give that with solo parenting, house hunting, getting everything in order to leave and move, caring for Vincenzo, prepping to move & making sure I’m not running on fumes.

So, for the moment, we are pausing.
Once I am settled, we will update everyone.

Please swipe to read complete details!!!

Thank you!!!

💛

Cindy & Bee by @beelyskoart

I feel like this costume is the Where’s Waldo of 90s nostalgia. You could stare at it for hours and still find something you hadn’t noticed before. But as much as I love every ridiculous little detail, my favorite part of this entire project is how many people I absolutely adore came together to make it happen. 🥹

When we decided our first Spirit Week theme led day would be Toys R Us, the original idea was for everyone to dress as an iconic toy from their childhood. Naturally, I couldn’t pick just one. And eventually, I came to the only logical conclusion. I would simply become the entire Toys R Us storefront. Obviously.

My friend Bee and I spent what I can only imagine were HOURS sending voice memos back and forth, brainstorming increasingly unhinged ideas, which is pretty much our creative process in a nutshell. She then spent approximately 48 HOURS bringing this thing to life.

She even modeled the storefront sign after the actual Toys R Us I grew up going to! We learned that the signage changed colors throughout different eras, so naturally we went with the 90s version.

We sourced as many miniature toys as humanly possible from the internet, friends, and anywhere else we could think of. The non-negotiables we couldn’t find? Bee tracked down printable files on Etsy, and Josh and I spent hours cutting, folding, and assembling tiny little toys.

Our friend Cindy 3D printed and hand-painted some of the most incredible details, including the miniature Little Tikes toys lining the sides. And this absolutely INSANE wig, complete with Geoffrey the Giraffe sculpted entirely out of hair, was handcrafted by @_hairwitch ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

There are so many tiny details, so many hours, and so much love poured into something that is, objectively, completely ridiculous. And I think that’s what makes it so special.

It’s giving Met Gala meets Toys R Us, in every single one of the best ways.

And honestly? I don’t think my inner child has ever been happier. 🥹🌈 by @beelyskoart

I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toysrus kid. 🦒

Opening ceremony of spirit week and the theme was Toysrus but I couldn’t decide on a toy, so thanks to some help from a few of my friends, I decided to be the whole store.

Video and details coming soon because the details are insane and pictures could never do this justice by @beelyskoart

London dump 2/3

I truly felt like a Spice Girl with my upcycled dress made from a vintage cabbage patch kid sleeping bag & cabbage Peter Pan style collar made by @beelyskoart She also made me bag charms with toys sourced by @stayweirdvintage and @sylenegems made me a matching bracelet and necklace set as a surprise.

Wynter & I did a little shopping in SoHo before we both chose our own adventure. Josh and I went and had some proper fish and chips and then spent hours at the @bricklanevintagemarket

I truly can’t explain to you how this place lit my soul on fire. Talking to artists who just love their community and craft all with such diverse backgrounds that just love each other was so special. It was MASSIVE and I could have spent hours here. The fact that a place exists in the world where I could buy vintage Miu Miu, upcycled clothes, a doodle bear, the UK version of a pastel Polly pocket and costumes from the London Symphony all in once place… I’ve never felt so seen 😭

If I didn’t miss my kids & animals so much I would just never have left. We finished the night with an absolutely incredible dinner where I had the best carrots drenched in brown butter I think I’ll ever experience. by @beelyskoart
