I was 20 years old and on vacation with my family in Maui. My mom had a full day planned for us but nothing seemed to be going as expected . Our lunch reservations were lost so we waited over 1 hour to even be seated. Then we drove to the south side of the island to go to McKenna Beach 🏝️ When we arrived at the beach it was blocked off and the lifeguards told us that there were multiple shark 🦈 sightings, so for safety reasons they had to close the beach for the rest of the day. Still trying to make the best of the day, my mom took us for a drive to Kihei and we stopped at a quaint little outdoor flea market. I separated from my family and came across this tiny empty booth where they were selling the most alluring handmade pieces of jewelry designed by Hawaiian artists. Next thing I knew, Britney Spears was standing next to me inside this itty-bitty booth. It can be quite intimidating meeting your idol (I was literally shaking) but she was everything and more than I could have ever imagined. There were no paparazzi, she didn’t have a huge entourage. She wore hardly any makeup and she was even more beautiful in person than in her music videos. Although she was the biggest star in the world that’s not what she put off when she spoke with me and I’ll never forget all that she said to me. She was kind, gentle, down to earth, southern sweet and the most magical person I’d ever seen. Turned out the day went exactly as planned, it was kismet ✨ Happy Birthday to my forever idol, the one and only @britneyspears 👸🏼🎉🎈🥳💖 Maui 2006

Deeply devastated by the passing of @dtmelissa Melissa Rich Brown. A friendship that I will always cherish & hold close. There are so many things that I admire about you. The way you walked through life with self confidence & strength, proud with your head held high. Unknowingly inspiring others, like myself, to walk through the world with a bit more confidence. Your laughter and the way it could fill the entire room. As I process this news, something that stands out is your iconic phrase #RICH it was a state of mind that you shared with the people you cared about, it was your encouragement and support. I’ll never forget when I was filming a show and I needed a last minute Britney inspired look and I turned to you. You never hesitated to help & you cheered for me, something I’ll never forget. I love you and may you be in paradise with Nelson & Rue now.

Sometimes words aren’t enough to truly capture a person and express the gratitude you feel just for their existence and the endless ways their love has enriched your life. Maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be, and perhaps that’s part of the magic and the wonder of it all. Some people are so special that you don’t just celebrate them on one day, because even if it’s in my own silence, my sister gives me reason to celebrate every day. Like the way she showed me that even when life gets really difficult, kindness is still the answer. Or something as seemingly simple as coming across an autumn leaf on the ground and giving pause to appreciate the beautiful burst of colors while knowing that the leaf died just so you could witness it’s glory. There are so many things I could write to try and express how much I love and adore my sister, but there isn’t anything I could write or say that she doesn’t already know, and THAT’S the unspoken beauty of it all.
Forever my sister, forever my hero, forever bringing out the best.

A smile is a powerful weapon, you can even break the ice with it 😉 (cheesy but true!)
