What else does your role involve? If you feel your business role is multi faceted then this is a great trend to jump on. And if you do it, make sure to add some funny / more personal roles too - as this is what makes you human 😉! To jump on this trend, use the same audio and timings as this bit is crucial. And to recreate it just click “use template” to open up the Reel in the Edits app and add your own video and texts. If you do not see the “use template” option, you can click on the audio image in the bottom right hand corner of the Reel, then open it in Edits that way. Please tag me if you give this a go! Thank you to everyone who joined me at my latest Reels Made Simple workshop earlier this week! It was brilliant to work with such a great group of local business owners, most of whom had Reels under their belt, and to help them fill in the gaps with the features, shortcuts and tricks that make creating them so much easier and quicker. In July I got approached for a TV show over Instagram. I applied and then I got dropped, all within a few weeks. That all too familiar feeling of self doubt crept in, as it does. But the reason I’m sharing this experience here is because none of it would have happened if I wasn’t posting. Someone found me because I was visible on here. As a brand and business my belief is you don’t have to be everywhere and on every platform. You just have to be somewhere people can find you. I did ask the casting director why he chose to contact me and he said he couldn’t explain how or why, he just knew 😉! So was it that he thought seeing someone like me handcuffed to someone totally unlike me would make good TV? I have a feeling my answers to what I feel passionate about was not what they were looking for. Basically nothing outrageous nor controversial. I found that part the hardest part of the application! You will see I have added a couple of clips / out takes from the piece to camera that I submitted to the show! However the problem up until now has been creating video carousels with added text has been clunky and labour intensive! Couldn’t resist this “back to the 80s” vibe trending all over Instagram currently …! Have you jumped on this trend yet? To do it - simply upload a current photo of you to Chat GPT (free version) and ask it to show you what you look like in the 80s - in the form of a 1980s Retro Portrait. Quite honestly the best part about this trend for me has been choosing the audio!! Who else loved “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”? If selling online feels hard right now, then you are not alone! Instagram is tricky - and keeping up with the algorithm changes, constant updates and new features can be tough. Particularly if social media is just one of the many business hats you wear. It is also one of biggest social platforms in the world (actually the 3rd most-used social platform after Facebook and YouTube). And with Reels accounting for 46% of time spent on the Instagram app and the fact that Reels are being shared more than 4.5 billion times per day, it makes you wonder if any one business stands a chance of making some noise on the grid? Well the good news is YES - you do stand a chance but only if you optimise your account. If there were just one thing I had to recommend you doing to help make your business stand out this week, I would say “show your face”. Show face if you are your brand or founder, and in the case of larger brands then show people in your posts (not solitary product shots) and try to involve your team members if you can too! It can be daunting at first but the more you do it the easier it gets. The main thing is to not strive for perfection. It sadly doesn’t exist. It’s the actual posting that counts.
