I am because we are.

During UNGA (@unitednations General Assembly) Week in New York, I’m honored to share a deeply personal story at Voices of Mothers: Live Music Industry Edition, presented by @worldwomanfund in collaboration with @livenationwomen and @l.acoustics.official

My piece, “A Freedom Fighter’s Daughter,” reflects on being raised by a mother who was a freedom fighter during apartheid, and on the belief she gave me that education is freedom and independence is something you build, not receive.

Her courage helped shape the woman I became.

2026’s biggest lesson so far, in one line: sometimes you just have to look at the wreckage and say “well, that was f****ed.” Then you get up and keep it moving anyway.

Business will humble you. Life will too. The plan that falls apart, the person whose mask finally falls off and shows you exactly who they are, the moment nothing goes the way you drew it up. None of that is the story. What you do next is.

Nobody hands you resilience. You build it by doing everything in your power to keep moving anyway.

And this year, every time a door closed, ten thousand more opened. I used to say, God, I’ve seen what you’ve done for others. Now I say, God, I’ve seen what you do for me. And I know you’ll keep doing it, as long as I keep going.

A pure heart always wins in the end. I believe that more now than I ever have.

Last week’s @wearecaringkind was a reminder of why this work matters so much.

CaringKind understands a truth we too often miss: the ones who carry others cannot pour from an empty cup. Behind every person living with dementia is someone quietly carrying the weight of their care, and CaringKind exists to make sure that person is never carrying it alone.

For over 3 decades, they’ve been a leading voice in Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving, working hand in hand with the community to build the information, tools, and training that families need most. From their Helpline staffed by Dementia Specialists, to support groups, education programs, early-stage services, and their wanderer’s safety program, CaringKind shows up for the people who show up for everyone else.

A special thank you to @eleonoratornatore & @a_tallentspivak for helping put together this monumental gala for the 30th anniversary, and for being walking angels on earth. I truly don’t know how they do it all, but they do, and the world is better for it.
