There’s something comforting about opening the freezer and knowing there’s proper food there for the week ahead.

Good beef provides the makings of slow suppers, roast dinners, cottage pies, burgers on the barbecue and meals that gather people round the table.

Our beef boxes are filled with a range of cuts, carefully prepared from cattle raised on our Somerset pasture.

We focus on welfare, flavour and producing beef with depth, texture and real character.

A box creates many evenings of easy family cooking, full plates and the kind of food that encourages everyone to linger at the table.

It’s food that tastes like it used to, nutrition that’s provided by nature.

If you want to join our growing list of customers, please message with details.

We currently have the following available:

10KG Beetham Family Boxes at £200
5KG Beetham Supper Boxes at £110
Premium Beetham Steak Boxes at £85

Mumma’s to be on the mooove!

This is our small herd of rare breed Albion cattle, who are due to calve next spring! 🐮

These cattle graze our SSSI (site of special scientific interest) ground, which has to be grazed by rare breed cattle. 👨‍🔬

This ground is one of the last undrained moors on the Blackdown Hills, and provides the biodiversity to allow rare flora and fauna to thrive. 🦋

When you’re a busy family, making nutritious and delicious meals can sometimes be a bit difficult day after day.

We get round this by cooking two meals worth of food at a time and then creating two mealtimes from it.

So when @jesswinrowequinephysio cooked for us all on Sunday, she made a big @lecreuset potful of stew and we enjoyed the first half of it for dinner.

Then, later in the week, the leftovers went into @barringtonpottery pie dishes and the addition of a pre-rolled puff pastry lid made for another quick and easy, but delicious meal.

Jess made @cheftomkerridge braised shin with ginger, carrot and cabbage and it was so tasty!

Swipe to learn a little bit more about shin, it’s very often overlooked but is one of our firm favourites!

Double the flavour, half the time!

Shin is high in collagen and best cooked slow and long, which transforms it into fork-tender, deeply flavoured meat in a rich and velvety gravy. taken in Beetham by @beethamfarm

Cattle Catchup! Bit of a catchup of what’s been happening over the last couple weeks;

TB testing for all the cattle, luckily we only have to do this once a year, and the cattle were all clear this year! 🐄

Cattle wormed, weighed, and back out to some green grass for the first time in a long time! 🌾 Nice to not have to feed so much silage for a little bit.

With the dry summer we’ve had the cattle have made a big dent into their winter forage stocks, so we’re hoping for another cut of grass before the winter to hopefully make up some of that shortfall.

And most importantly, rain! We’ve had some and it’s made a difference, but we’re going to not a lot more of it to make up for this year’s drought. 🌧️

Our aim is to deliver thoughtfully raised, great tasting meat to your plate.

We always say our story starts in the fields - that’s the unseen bit when you buy your meat, but the way your beef is raised makes such a difference to the taste.

But there’s more to it than that, we started on our journey many years ago, when we purchased our first pigs to raise as a smallholder because we wanted to really own the provenance of our food.

For us, it’s always been about the taste of the food on our plate and knowing where it’s come from.

When we moved and got more land, we added a few cows and a few sheep into the mix.

But it’s our eldest son, James, who has had a lifelong passion to be a farmer and is stepping things up to the next level with his herd of beef cattle.

And great tasting beef is his mission, because that’s what he’s been raised eating at our kitchen table.

And in doing that, the story continues onto your kitchen table. ,

You buy your beef and serve great tasting beef to your family, sitting at the table, connecting with each other, creating memories.

And that makes us very happy…

We’ve moved into the ‘ber months and that means roasts are back on the menu.
🎉
Bacon wrapped beef is a family favourite that Mr W came up with, it’s a slow roast joint, wrapped in streaky bacon (we like smoked bacon) and then popped into a low oven for 5-6 hours.
🍽️
Serve with veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy.
🥪
If you do a 2kg joint (and can stop the family going back for third helpings), the thinly-sliced cooked beef leftovers make a delicious sandwich.
😘
The slow roast joints are grouped together on the home page of our new website and you can find the full recipe on the recipe page. Just click the link to the website in our profile above.

It’s #backbritishfarming day today, so it seems very appropriate that we started the day with Mr W heading off to deliver our very first web order.
🚛
We set the site live quietly last week so we could do the final tests on it.
💻
But now it’s out in the world and we know it works because we’ve already had this first order!
🧑‍💻
The link is up above in our profile, we’d love you to take a look and let us know what you think - 🙈 please be kind because we’ve done it ourselves with a bit of help from @rupsbrown (thanks Rupert!)
🐄
It’s really exciting to be taking this next step forward - you can pick your orders up from the farm or we can deliver locally.
📝
Next stage is to sort delivery further afield.
🙌
We can’t thank you enough for all your support - the kind words along the way and the genuine enthusiasm to support James in starting the farm. It means a lot to all of us.
🙏
Huge thanks to @rachelcollinsphoto for the website photos 📸

Starting a farm is a big ambition these days and there’s a lot stacked against you.
📚
There’s lots to learn, you don’t have all the land or the sheds you need and you’re up against the established farms when anything comes up to rent. Plus you’re working a full-time job and fitting your farm in around it - very grateful for the flexibility of being a farm contractor.
📞
But there’s many advantages to starting it all from scratch as well.
🪶
You may not have the generational knowledge of established farms, but you also don’t have the burden of generational expectations of how things have to be done.
🙏
A passion for what you do, curiosity and a willingness to learn are great tools - the farming community share their knowledge and help each other out.
🐄
We raised a few Dexters for a good few years of living here, but in the last two years James has really taken up the mantle and has established a good beef herd.
🍽️
Our beef is grass-based and raised for flavour, and there’s a lot of thinking and management that goes into making that a reality.
🚜
So it makes our day when we get feedback like this -

“I just wanted to say that we’ve enjoyed quite a few pieces of the beef box now. The meat is such good flavour and quality. We will definitely be ordering another box”
📄
It makes all the hard work worthwhile - thank you.

Eating outdoors is one of our favourite things to do…
🍔
We’re self-confessed foodies, so cooking is always an occasion for us and we’re always finding new foods to try - cheese is a particular weakness of ours! Our burger topper of choice at the moment is @longmancheese Glastonbury Twanger.
🧀
Add home grown tomatoes and cucumbers, salad leaves from @caplandacre and that’s a perfect lunch for us.
🍅
We are a family divided on the use of ketchup, it causes many a debate but on this occasion we had @higher_farm ketchup on the table, which is Mum’s current ketchup of choice. For salad dressing @alldressedupdressings has been a firm favourite since we discovered it.
🍾
There’s always a Glug jug of water and some of our own Beetham Farm Apple Juice on the table - and we did sneak in a cheeky bottle of sparking @wayfordvineyard, it’s very delicious 😘
How about you - what’s your idea of a great outdoor meal?

We’ve had a busy few days!
😁
Our first ever Farmer’s Market at @somersetfarmersmarketsuk Crewkerne on Saturday - the weather was glorious and we met lots of lovely customers. Steaks were most definitely the popular sales of the day and it was great to chat to customers about the farm and what we’re doing.
🛻
Then it was a quick turnaround home to feed the animals, make some beef steak tacos for lunch and then drive to Salisbury for a family party. Great party and we didn’t get home until the early hours of the morning.
🎉
Sunday saw us harvesting and pickling veg from the garden while James was moving fences to get fields ready for the young stock to move.
🧆
Supper was delicious - beef meatballs in a homemade tomato sauce and then we all turned in quite early!
📸
Monday morning dawned all too quickly - and James was off to do his contracting work and the home team were busy prepping for a burger and ribeye steak shoot with @rachelcollinsphoto
🍔
Obviously that meant it was burgers for lunch!

All in all it was a beefin’ busy few days! How was your weekend?

It’s hot out there and our main concern at the moment is moving this lot around regularly and making sure that they have shade, grass to eat and plenty of water.
🐄
This is our younger herd and they have settled into the routine now, we trotted them down the lane into this field and they’re liking it here.
🌱
They’re very inquisitive and like to see what’s going on, so the arrival of a photographer in the field caused slots of interest!
📸
We’ve got some great photos for the Beetham Farm website, thanks to @rachelcollinsphoto and will be launching it soon.
