I loved @grisgrimly design from the original drawings so I made one!!

🎃 New Halloween collab with @justin_rasch_official 🎃

Man, making the Martian was so cool, back in 2022 at the @pixelatl festival, @georginahayns give a masterclass about her career, from her beginnings to the @laikastudios era and then @gdtreal @pinocchiomovie
sharing stunning material of the original stopmotion tests for @timburton Mars Attacks, like some footage with @barry.purves making a cameo as he animated the little stop frame vids.

All that was super useful to make the puppet, as there is not a lot of material in the behind the scenes or dvd or bluray, the stunning work by @mackandsaund it's a thing of beauty. So all this is a celebration and invitation for people to discover the film.

I loved it when little, the scope, the absurd nature, and that cast that Tim got for this? Unprecedented, everyone was there.

One of the challenges or difficulties was the glass helmet and the rigged face. In the original, the animation required to put the helmet on and off each time something was animated in the face.

After finish it and seeing it in person was like oooh boy, the helmet really makes this come to life, innit? like no other piece before.

I need that behind the scenes artbook now.

"Tim Burton's Corpse bride" was released on this day back in 2005.

The second stopmotion project based on the ideas and art of the master of the strange is celebrating its 21st anniversary.

The craft and artwork was amazing and I remember checking the dvd extras amazed by the work of dozens that shaped this animated classic.

@grangelstudio was part of it behind the character design, here is a glimpse to his experience working in the movie with the guide of Mike Johnson and Tim Burton.

"Tim Burton's Corpse bride" was released 21 years ago.

Having the opportunity to talk with people that made my favorite films is amazing, the crafters, the illustrators, puppet makers, animators and designers are essential for a film to come to life as the captain of the ship.

@grangelstudio was responsible to make the character design of ton of stunning projects like "The Prince of Egypt", "Madagascar", "Pinocchio", "Kung Fu panda" and Corpse..

Here is a glimpse to a talk with Carlos Grangel about his experience working in the Tim Burton's stopmo classic.

A time lapse and glimpse to the Martian puppet I made a while ago for @justin_rasch_official

Loveeee the Burton universe, making this piece was fun as hell, and bloody complex, each collaboration with Justin becomes more detailed, bigger and crazier than the last one, at first there was rigid faces, then replacement masks, then rigged eyebrows, fabric bodies, and here a lot of the magic is behind the glass domes for the Martian.

Removed each frame to change the expression.

Got to see the original puppets made by @mackandsaund back in 2018 in an expo.

And was so curious that @georginahayns shared a masterclass in 2022 about the puppet making of many projects, "Mars Attacks" included, animated by the great @barry.purves so inspiring to have references of that type.

[Repost] A little behind the scenes of this "Monkeybone" homage collab made a couple of years ago with @justin_rasch_official

It's amazing to see the combination of live action and animation, and this has to be one of the biggest puppets that I ever made, I think the Rancor is now the one with that title.

Stunning to have the chance to talk with people that worked on the original movie, directed by the great Henry Selick, the man behind "Coraline" and a thing called "The Nightmare Before Christmas"...

October is almost here and you can feel the Halloween spirit, defrosting... 🎃🍂

It's Mary Shelley's birthday.

That book changed horror and fantasy as we knew it, so many versions, variants and more. Reading the og story in high school was amazing, with other titles.

Here a piece I made a while ago based mainly by the Bernie Wrightson comic book,and the classic design with the metal parts in neck and other stuff. That it's one of the most accurate from the description in the original novel.

Check the book, very wicked and inspiring.

Can't believe @tippettstudio it's ending as we know it.

Star Wars would not be the same without the genius and craft of Phil Tippett, and it's amazing to have witnessed that run since they met gold after the first galactic installment, then Jurassic Park, CG films, the sequel trilogy, Mad God and Mandalorian.

It's really interesting to know the evolution of the studio after CGI was becoming a thing, the og plan was to use stopmo for the dinosaurs and Phil thought that was the end of all, hehe still they needed it a dino specialist for that, and then he got an academy award.

Love to hear the stories behind the beginning of Industrial Light and Magic, very fun and amazing, but nothing has been the same after the pandemic and you just get the impression that the last 5 years will change everything eventually, sadly we are in that now, Hollywood is changing as we know it, the industry too and the way we are getting content now, and it really feels just like steam and noise by the amount of stuff you get now.

That's not the case with Tippet work, there was always a mad genius, craft, care and unique aspects to all his work. And they have been kind enough to share my work a couple of times.

Here some stuff I made as exercises using different techniques, love how crafty the original trilogy was, and the behind the scenes sometimes more than the films.

Today would have been the 106th birthday of the legendary @ray.harryhausen

Here a glimpse to the process of a piece I made based on the greatest stop motion animation scene in history.
"Jason And The Argonauts" [1963]

It has been lovely seeing all the documentaries of his work, great books and a very wholesome talk he got with @timburton

The technique as we know it would be not the same if he was not there, my first glimpse to his films was the wacky crazy @rodriguez
Spy Kids 2, that it was a complete tribute to his creatures and adventures.

Star Wars, Terminator, Mars Attacks, Clash of the Titans and probably Chris Odyssey have a lot of him there.

It's curious how he started, as many of us, making his own versions of the monsters we saw in cinemas to take a crappy camera and make tests, in my case was with a handycam and some King Kong figures.

Ow it's been a minute since I made this piece.

6 years! 2020. God damnit, the pandemic was at its peak and I was making some pieces that one thought would be a cool exercise to do, using concept arts, old designs or else.

Oh wood brain the doors you would open.

This was made 3 years before the movie release and it got so many fun situations. Then it got animated by Justin and some thought it was an advance or trailer haha because there was no official footage then.

You don't have all days the chance to make a piece before it's release and animated by a crew member at the same time the movie was made, is it?

And the collabs and work you would bring, wood boy. Collabs with one of the best animators in @laikastudios , a gig for the New York @mets, tons of pieces and then a movie too and then home.

There is something electric in this kind of projects, in making this pieces, happened to me before with a Jan Svankmajer sculpture I made for homework in art school, a little prince made in an insomnia night, a Frankelda made in an insomnia night, a Sandman Helm made in a insomnia night, a Jack Skellington made in an insomnia night, a... Pinocchio.. hahahaha

More behind the scenes fun stuff.

For this Monkeybone collab with @justin_rasch_official making a 1:1 puppet was super important, and the crazy part was the sync between animated footage and live action, just like they did in the movie.

The use of the reel in this sequence was essential, this was the biggest puppet I made back in that time, now the Rancor has that title.

Hehe fun that when "Wendell and Wild" got released Henry got the chance to check this tribute, Justin worked on that along "Pinocchio" that year, stuff that Guillermo shared too.

If u haven't seen "Monkeybone" it's a little like a mix of "The Mask", "Coraline", "The Nightmare before Christmas" with Brendan Fraser at the front of all.

So cool to make the piece, the final results were mind-blowing.
